Need some advice

If you were building a set would you down grade a card to obtain one with a harder to find back, or super low POP?

Say the card you have is a T206 grade 5 Pied 25, the card you are thinking about is a grade 4 Cycle or Old Mill, or what ever is not common but not a HINDU. The card is not a HOF just a common.

Thanks in advance for the input:)

Andrew,

If it were me, yes I would do it. To me its about collecting cards, not the slab. Besides, if you are giving up a more common back, you can always pick up another example later on down the road.

Cycle yes, Old Mill No

Pops really do not matter to me, so not even a consideration, as I am maily a t206 back collector

No, and yes...

I would never downgrade a card currently in my collection just to get a rare back, but that is just because I don't care about backs at all. But, yes, I would downgrade a current card in order to obtain one of the set's rarities, if that's what you mean.

back collectors unite

It really depends on what you enjoy more. If you are more into condition than tough backs then don't do it. If, like me, you enjoy collecting different backs, as long as the rare backed card is presentable, then go for it. In all of the threads asking about what to do one common answer comes up frequently (that's why it's common :))....collect what you enjoy and you will have few regrets.

I have done it before. Depends upon the card that is available and how easy it will be to replace the one to be traded.

Backs

I've had the same dilemma. I have a T206 PSA Registry set so the highest grade raises my score. Yet I love the rare backs. So I started out keeping the rarest back, if it was at least a PSA 3. Eventually I bought a 2nd card in higher grade (with a common back) and used that for the registry. I've kept some of the rare backs as extras after I upgraded. The toughest backs: Uzit, Drum, Broadleaf, Cycle 460, Amer Beauty 460, Lenox are hard to find in PSA 3 or better so if you sell them its hard to find another one later.
