To start a t206 player back run?

2 Attachment(s)
Hey all,
Hope everything is well :). So I was looking at my collection today, and realized I have two t206 Admiral Schlei cards. One with a Hindu back, and another with a Sweet Caporal back. It just hit me that, hmmm, maybe a back run for the Admiral Schlei card (catching) wouldn't be too hard to complete. Looking at the possible/confirmed lists for backs, I see nothing too crazy. I believe I already have the hardest one to obtain, the Hindu.

Here's what is left:
  • El Principe De Gales
  • Old Mill
  • Piedmont 150
  • Piedmont 350
  • Sovereign 150
  • Sovereign 350 (Dark Green) (Not confirmed)
  • Sweet Caporal 150, Factory 25
  • Sweet Caporal 150, Factory 649
  • Sweet Caporal 350, Factory 25 (Not confirmed)
  • Sweet Caporal 350, Factory 30

What do you guys think? I think it'll be a lot of fun :) I won't make it my priority, because I have many other goals that I would like to complete before. But if I see a card as I go along here and there, I think it'd be pretty enjoyable. I would like to hear everyone's comments!

Here are the scans:

If anyone has any of these cards, I'd like to see if we can work a deal. Thank you.

Lastly, has anyone noticed how much darker the name is on the Hindu card compared to the Sweet Caporal card?

As a collector it's always fun to have stuff to look for that we "need". I think you will have fun so why not Wazoo? Good luck if you decide to go this route.

wazoo 07-19-2013 04:36 PM

Sounds good to me Leon! I won't make it my priority, but I can work on it slowly and make it last :) Should be a lot of fun!

Nice Waz...runs are great to keep things interesting when your primary collecting goals are quiet.

wonkaticket 07-19-2013 05:25 PM

Waz,

I think it's a great idea, and that is a great pose also.

Cheers,

John

I really like the colors! It should be a blast :)

Always a good idea to start with the 'tough' ones and work down. That Hindu is a great start!

wonkaticket 07-19-2013 05:36 PM

Agree one of the more fun and colorful poses in the set.

wazoo 07-19-2013 05:45 PM

Yes :) I think it's going to be difficult to find an El Principe De Gales one though.

And beautiful card John. I love the overprint and grade!

wonkaticket 07-19-2013 05:53 PM

Waz,

I sold an EPDG of this card a PSA 5 in the set I sold this year in REA.

Not sure how tough it is I'm sure there others out there. If it is really tough you know where one is. Then perhaps you can ask Rob or Brian of REA to contact the new owner and see if you can work something out.

Cheers,

John

Beautiful card! I'll see what I can do. I'm going to be at the White Plains East Coast National, so I'm hoping to find it there. Who knows? If not, maybe another backed Schlei. I'll find it eventually. Thank you.

Rumor has it that the next Sterling auction will have a lot of trimmed EPDGs that includes Schlei. :p

Don't be surprised if the Old Mill is tougher than the El Prince. Those early series cards are sometimes tougher than you think with Old Mill.

wazoo 07-19-2013 06:15 PM

I might have found an answer for an El Principe ;) Too bad I don't have an auction house accounts :/

And true true. Thanks for the help Mike. I wonder. I hope to get it to work. I'm sure once I find it, I will jumping with joy!

deadballfreaK 07-19-2013 06:32 PM

Oddly I just started my first back run with the Admiral Schlei portrait. Had the Uzit so that seemed like a good start.

t206

Chasing different backs is a fun project. I have 10 out of 14 different backs on T206 Luther "Dummy" Taylor so I always check on eBay weekly hoping to nail the missing ones but for your project. It seems not too bad since you already have the toughest one.

What are your other projects are?

Best,
Danny

Cool story! And thanks!

I want to finish my t206 back run. I'm missing only 7 more backs! Pretty crazy! It'd be interesting to see if I finished before I'm 20.

I also want to finish the set one day. For now though, I want to obtain all the hall of famers, excluding Wagner and Plank.

wazoo 07-19-2013 07:05 PM

Gorgeous UZIT!

Got your PMs. Will mail it out this weekend. I'm in western Canada so it may take a few extra days to get to Vermont.

Here's a scan of the back.

We are an amazing family :) arent we?

Best of luck with your collection...

DeafSports 07-19-2013 11:59 PM

I need to do some homework to see if Taylor used your player as catcher during 1901-07 NY Giants :) Therefore we should do some throw n catch soon-

I'll second what Mik'e saying. Over the span of about 7 years I put together a back run of a player with a similar back selection on two different occassions. The Hindu was in a league of it's own for difficulty, but after that it was the Old Mill that proved to be the most difficult to find. The EPDG was probably third, followed by the P350.

Anyway, it sounds like you're off to a great start. Enjoy the rest!

And props to Kawika. You're a class act.

Regards,

Richard.

Sean 07-20-2013 12:32 PM

Wazoo, great idea. I can tell you from my own experience that after I "completed" the set I did a back run. It took me five years , but it was the most fun I've had with this set.

It sounds like you made a good choice with Schlei. There is no killer back ( Uzit, Drum, BL460), you have the toughest already, and because the player is a common the rest, when you find them, shouldn't be too expensive.

So good luck and let us know how you are progressing. :)

Sean 07-20-2013 12:39 PM

Hey Waz, one more thing. When you check for all backs on T206Resource, for some reason they don't include Blank backs. You have to check the Blank back checklist separately.

As it turns out, there is a Schlei blank back out there somewhere.
Sorry, but your back run is going to be more difficult than you thought. I hope you still go ahead with it. -Sean

Ah man!! What a morale buster. Hey Wazoo - you can always skin a rough Piedmont and get your blank back that way.

wazoo 07-20-2013 03:46 PM

Well that just makes the challenge a tad bit harder. I'm going to need to start selling more lemonade for one of those ;) haha. Maybe one day. For now though, my main priorities will remain with the backs I listed. I really appreciate all the advice guys!

Got that right!

I just got back from two American Legion baseball games, so the arms a little sore. Maybe tomorrow we can have a catch ;)

Sent the card out this afternoon. Slow boat to Vermont rate, 7 to 10 business days. Let me know when you've gotten it.

I felt the same way, Johnny...awesome to see members come together and help each other out. This is one of the many reasons this is the best sports/card website going.

Classy and gernerous move David...way to go!
