Posted By: David
The same card was auctioned on eBay like two weeks ago and won for a lot of money. The winner found out it was a reprint and, apparently, backed out of paying.

Posted By: fkw707
This is the same fake Ruth that got me suspended for 2 weeks (10 days ago), but I see the con artist has put a couple creases in card, and changed screen names. The word reprint was erased from the back center of card exactly like the other fake NRMT+ card that got me in trouble (again.... 3rd time in 3 years, I warned the bidders, ands wrote seller, and stupid eBay suspended me for auction interference, as I used a few choice words to the seller). Oh well...... No warnings from me (you guys can) I learned my leason at least for another 6 months or so. Frank

Posted By: David
Well Frank, it was your efforts that saved the previous winner of the card lots of dough. To state the obvious, you were right and eBay was wrong.

Posted By: Elliot
Not that I would ever do this, nor would I recommend it. However, if one was determined to notify bidders of a fake, this is a possible strategy. Open up a non-determinable hotmail e-mail address with a fake name and other information required. Then use this e-mail address along with the same fake information to get an e-Bay ID name. Use this e-Bay account to notify bidders of the fake. When the seller complains, e-Bay will NARU the account that was set up for the sole purpose of notifying bidders. I have heard of this being done and working successfully.

Posted By: David
My opinion, is that any dealings with fakes should be overt and honest. In any of these cases, the straightforeward facts are your ally ('The card is a fake and should be removed or description changed'). I don't know the facts with Frank, but eBay may have had trouble with his apprach or words ('darn' and 'shucks' and stuff like that) rather than that he was notifying that something was a fake. However, if eBay was punishing Frank for notifying sellers/bidders about a fake card (which it definitely was/is), there is something wrong. Frankly (pun intended), eBay should be paying Frank for policing the auctions.

Posted By: Elliot
e-Bay will suspend you for auction interference (as it did with Frank) if you contact the buyers and warn them off the card (and the seller complains). If you contact the seller and say that the card might be a fake and he should check it, you will not get in trouble. Note that Frank got suspended for auction interference not the words that he used with the seller. Frank, want to shed more light?

Posted By: runscott
I've contacted several sellers, but never a bidder. The one time I complained to e-bay (fake 33 Lajoie), e-bay closed the auction and sent me a note about it. I still think it's the responsibility of the bidders to do some research prior to bidding on expensive cards - there are so many resources available (even the forgers access these boards).
