New(ish) member introduction

Hello Everybody:::
I'm fairly new to the site and still finding my way around a bit, but wanted to write and introduce myself---
My name is Daniel and I started collecting in 1986 at the age of 7...I always liked the older stuff (late 19th C./early 20th C.), and purchased as much of it as I could find (and afford!) at the time...
Luckily, I still have the majority of those cards

I had stopped collecting by the mid-1990's (a result of cards getting too expensive, the over-saturation of new sets, the players strike, and becoming a teenager):::

After many years away from the hobby, I think I'm back::::
And this site has alot to do with it.
Perhaps had I known of such an outlet way back when I would have never gone away....

-Daniel

Welcome Daniel. Enjoy the journey!!

You and I are the same age. I remember going to Orlando one year for a CHRIS SABO autograph signing! And Chipper Jones grew up right outside my hometown. I'm late to the vintage baseball game, but I've been collecting Victoria era postcards and such since college.

Welcome Daniel! Have fun in your collecting journey.

Welcome to the board, Daniel! That's really cool that you purchased prewar when you were a kid. What cards do you still have from back then?

As far as the old stuff is concerned--a coupla Old Judges, buncha T-206's, a T-205 Tinker, a T-202 Mathewson/Meyers, some T210's, etc,etc,etc...most of which is not pictured:::

Haven't quite figured out how to attach a decent sized image,,,but hopefully this will suffice for now...I'm hoping to get everything scanned properly at some point in the near future...

What is pictured is a hodge-podge assortment of some of what I've got...more to come

Also,,,does anyone know what make this WaJo is?...

ValKehl 06-08-2015 10:25 PM

Daniel, welcome to Net54. The WaJo card you are asking about is from the 1922 Schapira Bros. Big Show Candy set. Many, if not most, of the cards are found with a middle fold - they were folded to insert them into the tiny candy boxes. Here's the link to the info re these cards on the Old Cardboard web site: http://www.oldcardboard.com/e/e2/sch...?cardsetID=784

Welcome, Daniel! I'm about seven years older than you, but I also started collecting the old stuff when I was still a kid. That's a nice collection you have there, and I see you're a fellow raw collector! Nice group of T206s and Old Judges, and those look like T209s you have in the picture, not T210s (though maybe you also have some T210s that aren't shown). I'm not sure what the die-cut cards are -- what brand is advertised on them?

IMAXMAX 06-08-2015 11:26 PM

Okay great---
thanks for the warm introductions from everybody,,,and to Val and David for the info...
I believe I also have the Joe Judge from the same Schapira set and also, if my memory serves me correct, one of the circus-looking boxes it came in somewhere...
The pic I posted is just a small fraction of what I've got---I'll inventory everything and get nice scans up of my T210s (and of everything else) in the next month or so...
Excited to be a part of this Network------
