Death by scanner. Please help

My scanner sucks. Period. I would like a fast high resolution scanner that won't break the bank. What have people had luck with? Needs to be USB. Thanks
Eric

This is the type I use - never had a problem.

I got mine at OfficeMax a few years ago for around $70

Good Luck

In the same boat as you dude. Look at my pics all fuzzy as hell. Just one problem is re-scanning everything when I finally invest in a decent scanner ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

How long does it take to scan with that scanner. Mine takes for ever it seems. Willing to pay a bit more if it scans really fast.

I have used a Canon Canoscan 5600F for a few years now and scanned over 800 cards, front and backs, into my database. It works great. You can find them on line for under $100. There are probably newer Canon scanners, but this one performs just fine for me.....

Thanks for all the advice. Keep it coming. Much appreciated

This^^^ I recently upgraded to this scanner and I'm so happy with it.

I would like a new scanner as well, but the Canon scanners are so huge. Is there a smaller, more portable, wireless CCD scanner on the market? There are lots of small CIS scanners, but I've never seen a small CCD scanner.

HP Photosmart 6525 wireless...3 in 1...copy, print and scanner. works great for all my needs. bought at Sams Club.

Josh, if you are looking to scan graded cards, I would avoid it. My understanding is the v19 has a CIS scanning sensor. This would not pick up the depth of scan very well and would result in a fuzzy image. Definitely find something with a ccd scanning sensor such as the v37 or canon mentioned above even if they cost a little more.

I got my epson perfection v33 for $40 refurbished on ebay. Here's a card scanned at 300 dpi, which takes a couple seconds:

+1. Great scanner. Mine died yesterday. I bought this all in one to replace mine as it has the same resolution as the 9000F, Canon PIXMA MG7520 Wireless Inkjet Photo AllinOne Printer Black from Best Buy.

I have a Canoscan also and am very happy with it. Along with the Epson, it seems to be the most popular on this board.

To those others who are using a Canoscan - what software are you using to make the scans - the MP Navigator EX that came with it, or something else?

If you are using MP Navigator EX, which "Document Type" setting are you using to make scans of your cards - Color Photo, Color Document or Magazine (Color)?

Yeah, that's basically the same deal I got. Mine was $40 with free shipping, but pretty much the same thing. Mine was refurbished, but used should be fine. I definitely recommend it. Any scanner without the CCD element is worthless for scanning graded cards. It was a lot of fun when I got it, and scanned all my cards in.

I'm quite satisfied with my Epson V330.

Check your local Office Depot/Office Max. The one by me has the V33 for $69.99 on clearance. No a bad price for a new unit!

I have the Epson V33 and it did a great job for me, but I am usually lazy and use the scanner on my HP 8600 All In One.

steve B 05-31-2015 12:45 PM

Mine is an Epson perfection 2400, and it's pretty fast on lower resolutions. It also lets me select the area to scan so I'm not scanning the entire area.

I have an all in one that I rarely use as a scanner.

And for my birthday I got a Brother large format scanner. :D Still need to set it up, but I'll be able to scan the larger old magazines I have and other stuff that's just a bit too big for a regular scanner.

I have a Canoscan as well but don't think the brand makes that much difference as long as you get one with CCD scanning technology. Most of the differences between the various Canoscan's are due to the features of the scanner so choose according to what features you like / need.

Do NOT get a CID scanner or your scans will continue to be fuzzy.

Epson v33

Got mine off Craigslist for $20. Owner had two - one for work and one for home. Was supposed to be $25 but he gave me a discount for 45 mins of travel. Scans great.

Here is a previous thread on scanners. You want one with CCD technology. I got an Epson V33 with eBucks specifically so I could scan baseball cards.

My wife was shaking her head. Just doesn't understand.

What is CCD anyway ??? And yes I'll have to rescan my entire collection. But in the end it will be worth it !

gregr2 06-01-2015 07:46 PM

Charge Coupled Device, from my understanding this is the element that does the actual scanning. CCD uses a lens similar to the kind found in digital cameras and that is why they can produce the kind of high resolution scans we are looking for.
