Signed Cobb M114

I've been eyeing this one for many years, since it first showed up in Heritage Auctions four years ago. Finally was able to pull the trigger. My first signed Cobb anything, and I'm thrilled about it!

Feel very fortunate to pick up this 1937 Goudey Premiums Wide Pen Type 4 Gabby Hartnett, WAY nicer than the 1936 Type 1 I have in my collection!

The view of that old version of Wrigley's bleachers in the background is a bonus.

Smoky Howard

Never noticed that the text on the back of Joe Wood's Cracker Jack referred to him as "Joseph". Surprised they would propagate that erroneous appellation on the flip. His given name was Howard. Joe was his childhood nickname. Never was Joseph. Am probably in the minority of folks who give a hoot. Very nice card anyway.

Some very cool pickups in the past few posts (the 1915 CJ Wood, in particular, is beast). Congrats. I picked both of these up last night at LOTG. very excited (and poor).

Nice cards, John - knocking out the tougher ones first. It'll keep the long-term frustration way down.

congrats...one of the best cobb rookies out there!!!!!

Rhotchkiss 04-14-2019 06:44 PM

Thanks guys. I paid up on both, but the e90-1 Wags is underrated difficult and very tough to find remotely centered, and the Dietsche- well, I figured it was pay up now or pay even more later (at least I hope)

Very happy to bring Master Melvin home from the show this weekend. I really like this issue (#127) for the scowling portrait of a guy who from all accounts was a "nice guy."

Also, most of the time I like the 33's better with the banner at the bottom but I think this card looks better without.

Ryan, Brian et al, awesome cards!

I got this in LOTG...can't believe after 30 years of collecting, this is my first Goudey Ruth. Might need to chase all 4 poses now?! :)

charlietheexterminator 04-18-2019 03:05 AM

Ryan, just another killer month for you.
Dan, nice Cobb’s.
Mikey, not sure why that Ruth is only a 2 grade, it’s a beauty.

yanksfan09 04-18-2019 05:12 AM

Great looking Ruth Goudey!

Whoa, some difficult cards to follow this month. Nice going.

Here's more of a common card with large borders. Some call these "Jumbo T206" others call them 'what T206 cards used to look like in the seventies' (Nooo! that's wrong, just joking)...

I got totally blown away on the W600 street clothes in Heritage last night (man did that trade for a ton), but I am happy to pick these up; the Chance was an eBay pick up.

Great pickups Ryan! That W600 you got us phenomenal. Nice cards all around.
The street clothes went crazy in extended bidding. Wonder who landed that one? Deep pockets for sure.

BLongley 04-20-2019 08:33 AM

Ryan! Wow wow wow!! Congrats on those amazing pickups! Especially the Wags W600... I know you had your eye on that one ideally the street clothes version, but your consolation prize is not too shabby ;)

MVSNYC 04-20-2019 08:42 AM

Ryan, even though it's rarer, the street clothes version doesn't hold a candle to the aesthetic pleasure that his uniform version provides.

pawpawdiv9 04-20-2019 12:58 PM

Nice additions fellas. I got bumped on a few items in HA the day before and in another auction as well. Prices on blue-chip stuff is definetly not cheap anymore.
I went for the Orcaja Dimaggio and the Ruth goudey SGC2 (#144)
One positive thing is- no money spent and drool on my keyboard.

Great pickups! Love the Pirates cabinet!

Rhotchkiss 04-21-2019 12:19 PM

Those are awesome Chris, Congrats.

cracker_jack 04-21-2019 12:44 PM

Thanks Jeff & Ryan. I was astonished at what the Pirate W600s went for. Hoped for the Gibson too but maybe next time.

Joe_G. 04-21-2019 08:43 PM

Some great items posted from some strong Spring Auctions.

I was particularly drawn to the many Larry Twitchell estate items in the REA Spring Auction. I was able to pick up several Tomlinson cabinets and a new box for some of my favorite cigarette packs.

Bicem 04-21-2019 09:43 PM

Wow Joe, very cool, figured you'd be all over the cabs as well.
