Sorry for starting yet another T206 minutiae thread.

I can't recall seeing a back this dark. What do you think?

Easterly and Herzog posted for comparison.

Looks yucky, off hand....as others said below, over inked probably...or yucky, one of the two :)

Sure have actually on my Dubuc (Kling for comparison). Although I don't think it's a printing variation like the Sovereign Forest Green but rather just over-inked. Or these particular cards were a part of the first sheet and the ink was still very fresh.

asoriano 07-11-2017 08:44 PM

Agreed, freshly-inked IMO

I have a few like this but never gave the darker ink much thought. Just figured they were over inked. If the ink lines were sharp and still darker than the normal forest green, then I'd say color variation but with the ink bleed on the darker back, it seems to be just over inked. As with any T206 topic, further review is needed.

Just heavily inked Luke.

I have a Hunky Shaw that is just as dark. Hard to tell in my scan, but when I compare it side-by-side to your Dubuc, it's just as dark. Actually the Dubucs & Kling scans are even heavier inked than my Shaw. Notice the outlines are solid on those 3 cards

Luke - It is fake... you should send to me for guidance.. :)
:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Haha! :D

I saw the back first and that was my first thought. But when I turned it over, it was obviously real. Thanks for the posts guys. I guess I knew it was over-inked or possibly double stamped, but I've just never seen one quite this extreme. The Dubuc looks very similar.

You are wrong! It is fake... you have my address :D:D:D:D:D

It's still a cool back though Luke. Not very often do you find backs with the ink that sharp/heavy.

MVSNYC 07-12-2017 04:58 PM

Cool card, Luke.

When looking for certain backs, I always search for dark, bold exanples. Besides looking cool, they're also rather rare, as most cards have slightly faded or worn ink, or just weren't printed that bold. I'll post my Uzit tonight.

There is no cause for alarm over that Campbell card. Here are 2 of several cards in my all--SOVEREIGN set that were printed with a deeper GREEN ink.
I can tell you, after seeing 1000's of SOVEREIGN cards while putting together my all--SOVEREIGN set, there is a varying intensity of green in the cards
of the 350-only series. However, I have not seen this effect in the 150 series cards, nor the 460-only series cards.

It is interesting that only the Sovereign 350s come in forest green, normal green, and this dark green.

Just for fun sake, if we declared the dark green Sovereign as its own variation, would it be rarer than the forest green version?

I too believe your card is authentic. It is interesting that some T206's seem to have deeper colors than others.

For example, have you noticed how Cobb green background portraits sometimes have darker green backgrounds? Here's are 2 scans from REA's website:
