Another scam-1966 Orr

Another scam on ebay. Fake PSA holder. Real one is attached.

Peter_Spaeth 01-17-2016 08:37 PM

Sophie the Giraffe might be real though.

I think the Orr was found as a prize in the Terocin Pain patch box. What a lucky pull!

There sure do seem to be a lot of these popping up. Not a good sign.

100% feedback and experienced seller. What are the tells on the fake holder?

angolajones 01-18-2016 06:43 AM

Centering is different between the two pictures.

ezez420 01-18-2016 07:06 AM

Exactly. Two different cards with same serial number.

Ed. Great job on pointing these frauds out. Keep up the good work.

Flips completely different too. If cards were identical, maybe it could be explained by reholdering, but this flip looks off.

ezez420 01-18-2016 08:01 AM

Seller is denying everything. Psa needs to have a contact to report these things to get off market

If it was a half grade ie. 8.5 than id be worried!

I am told that ebay is not always responsive even when PSA points these auctions out.

Side By Side

This may help in seeing side by side. The Mile High example from 2010 is on the left, current eBay auction card/link Ed provided is on the right

1952boyntoncollector 01-18-2016 08:19 AM

how we know know the Mile High one isn't the fake one just for the sake of argument..

would be nice if the real owner on the psa registry was notified by psa with the option of saying 'hey I got the real card' but the owner doesn't have to do that if didn't want too..but you would think some owners would do that....would only help get bigger prices for cards in the future...

bxb 01-18-2016 08:22 AM

Maybe the eBay one is the fake.

bnorth 01-18-2016 08:32 AM

or the most likely, they are both fake.

Donscards 01-18-2016 08:37 AM

You can see where the bar code is different, but they have the same serial number.

AGuinness 01-18-2016 08:37 AM

Anybody read the description, including variations in cutting hockey cards in the 1960s, from this Orr card seller?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-Topps-3.../321979742054?

Never heard of that myself, but I'm not so versed on hockey card cutting history.

Peter_Spaeth 01-18-2016 08:42 AM

One can only assume he couldn't get that card into a PSA holder either.

Lots of keyword spamming in that title.

frankbmd 01-18-2016 08:56 AM

Seller's second most costly auction is for a $50 Lettuce Entertain You Gift Card.

How long will the Orr winner be entertained?

Personally I would take the salad for $44, because I already have Sophie la girafe.;)

After the Packer debacle I can see why you wouldn't choose his Larry Fitzgerald card. :D

Bid History

You see the bid history of that eBay listing?

All looks legit to me ;)

A 20-20 tie or a 29-29 tie are only debacles in Green Bay and New Haven.

Most would call them close games.:D

No, it wont be legit till bidder o***l(1) has at least 1 bid retraction in the auction.

ezez420 01-18-2016 09:31 AM

Nice 1952 Topps Mantle up there now. Guy selling sells $20 call of duty games and a Mantle. Just a little suspect....

29-29 is a big win in Cambridge. :D

If a card is deemed trimmed, does SGC or PSA say that or can they just say 'authentic'

Never heard of that myself, but I'm not so versed on hockey card cutting history.

That card was in Huggins and Scott's last auction. http://nov15.hugginsandscott.com/cgi...l?itemid=90652

Exhibitman 01-18-2016 10:27 AM

So someone from H & S could tell us who bought it. Hello?

Peter_Spaeth 01-18-2016 10:29 AM

Huggins deemed it trimmed. "Graded Authentic by SGC due to minor perimeter trimming."

The ebay auction seems to go to great lengths to suggest it is not trimmed. "This card has not been deemed Trimmed. This card is very slightly short side to side. Not by much. I have plenty of 1966 Topps Hockey cards that are graded by PSA that are the same size or smaller right to left. Back in 1966 Topps had cards that were cut shorter and longer through out the set ."

right so description is not accurate..can be returned

botn 01-18-2016 11:27 AM

Absolutely anything can be returned if bought on eBay even if it is described adequately. Despite his sales tactics he is selling exactly what he is advertising--and SGC Auth Orr rookie so there should not be grounds for a return.

As far as his claims about size goes, that is not relevant. Many issues come smaller so you have to look at other attributes to determine if a card has been trimmed. Based on his scan the top edge at a minimum looks suspect. Hard to be sure without having it in hand.

Rookiemonster 01-18-2016 11:29 AM

Wow this is some freaky snit ! I can't belive this is prevalent in the hobby .

I don't know if it matters, but that card also has a slight diamond cut. So looking at it, the front (at least) is slightly crooked.
