some guy who went to high school or college and earned a letter sweater.

Chet Brewer, the negro league baseball player was first signed to play professional baseball when he was 15 years old. Doubt that he earned a letter sweater.

but if you want to research it start here, Since he lived in Des Moines, IA

you could match things up here

You said is 50's

In 1952 he managed the porterville comets. The Porterville Comets were the last minor league baseball team that operated out of Porterville, California. They played in the Southwest International League in 1952 and were an all-black baseball team.

Could this be a team sweater? Porterville CA teams seem to have purple colors too.

Furthermore, is it possible the logo on the 7 is a comet?

It is a HS (likely) or college letterman sweater. Prob football (high number) and the name is of the kid that wore it.

What Chris said but also it is a size 42, Chet was 6'4" and weight about 180 or so. A 42 might be a little short.

When you are looking at memorabilia, you need to research everything

I saw the 42, but I looked at his jerseys and they all seemed short so that part did not bother me really. Who the hell else was named Chet brewer lol

Looks like a 1926 Chet Brewer Monarchs sweater to me. Probably dates to around April 9th to be a little more precise. In that condition it is worth around $15K at least.:)

The more famous Chet was a coach and athletic director at the University of Missouri. He was one of the first to give out letter sweaters ( sorry wrong color) and he was the person who started the tradition of "Homecoming"
