The Most Unusual and Useful Thing You Have Learned on the Forum

1 Attachment(s)
After years on Net54 one realizes how much he has learned here from other members, some of it remembered and some not. Maybe others have forgotten the same thing you learned. This thread hopefully will be a place where you can post something that you have learned here that you still utilize today in your collecting activities.

As collectors of cards, slabs, sets and memorabilia we all receive a fair number of boxes in the mail. Many are permanently defaced precluding re-use. So you simply throw them away. Not I.

I cannot remember who posted this, but the majority of packing boxes are cut and configured flat pieces of cardboard. The vast majority of them are, in fact, completely reversible. The two examples illustrated in the photo have been "reversed" into seemingly untouched brown boxes. No mailed stickers or writing on the outside. Since learning this trick, the need for purchasing boxes has been virtually eliminated.

However, if you receive cards in a "reversed" box, you cannot repeat the procedure with the same results.:D

Happy collecting.

Lets see some other unusual benefits of a Net54 education.

That bottom box almost looks like it was a pizza box... wouldn't that be a neat trick - most of us could COMPLETELY eliminate our need for shipping boxes.:D

Ever thought

to go to a local grocery store and ask what day they get a shipment in and to save you some empty boxes?

The importance of selecting the "right" scanner and using it correctly.

Kudos to board member Nic Schmitt for developing and posting his Graded Card Scanning document. Everything you ever wanted to know about scanners/scanning. Awesome work.

As an aside - nearly all of my purchases come in padded bubble mailers which are totally reusable when I sell something. I'm pretty sure that I haven't purchased a shipping bubble mailer in 20+ years.

Frank

Frank, that pizza box looks awful clean. Did you run it through your dishwasher?

The last time I purchased cards from you, I did notice some pizza stains on the cards.

PSA cannot detect pepperoni and sausage in their grading process. You would think the cards would fail the sniff test.:D

I find it unlikely that anyone involved with baseball cards could not detect the smell of pepperoni pizza.

I knew that something stinks with this whole PSA thing, but never suspected it was because of pizza. Maybe Moser and Co. are using a pizza cutter to achieve those super clean edges!

Most important thing I've learned here is the proper usage of the word "WHILST"

I would guess that many of the members here would not consider the odor of pizza to be altering the card. Leafing through your CJ's, T's and the such you would probably just start muttering 'mmmm pizza' ala Homer Simpson!
