Looks like Lew Lipset's April Auction Has Some Goodies

(Disclaimer: I'm not associated with Lew, nor his auctions, nor am I a consigner, nor do I receive anything for posting this ... I'm just passing along info from his email I received today. A link to his auction site is at the end of the message. Best Regards, Craig)

Our April 7th auction is complete at 560 lots and is at the printers. We are no longer taking consignments. We expect to have the catalogs in the mail Around March 7th and the auction should be on line March 14th. PDF's of the catalog should be available the end of February and anyone wanting one should send me an email.

Private viewing for this auction will be available on weekdays from Monday, March 6th to Friday April 1st at our office in Scottsdale, Arizona. This period covers almost the entirety of Spring Training for those inclined to make a vacation out of it. We strongly encourage viewing not only for the rarer items but the many wholesale lots which range from tobacco, caramel and 30's gum cards to the Topps and Bowmans. There will be no viewing on weekends or auction week. We expect it to be very busy and half day or full day appointments must be made in advance and you must provide a list of items you wish to see.

Following is some highlights from the auction and I hope you agree that it’s the best auction we’ve ever had.

Highlights:

Rare cards including an N175 large Gypsy Queen, an 1870 CDV of the Forest City team, an 1890 Waldon Smith Players League Cabinet of the Boston Club , Near complete T205, T206, T207 sets which have been broken down into 26 lots; Better complete sets including B18 Blankets, 1934 Goudey, Goudy Heads Up, Scrapps, 1948-9 Leafs (in 4 lots), Dandee Potato Chips, Journal American nr set ;

Almost every Topps and Bowman baseball set from 1948-1975 and A high grade run of 1952 Topps High numbers , all PSA graded in 28 lots; Almost all the Topps and Bowman Football sets

An unusually large Postcard section highlighted by a lot of 22 Bregstones, a Winthrop Flip Movie postcard of McGinnity, Panoramic team postcards of the 1907 Rustlers and the 1907 Giants and much more;

A small but powerful autograph section highlighted by 3 Babe Ruth signed items, a possible Ty Cobb single signed ball and a large collection of over 450 signed members of the College Football Hall of Fame, all authenticated

Also a World Series ticket collection starting in 1912 17 Rare Whitehead & Hoag PCL PM5’s and other rare pins and an enormous amount of wholesale lots for dealers from tobacco to thirties gum cards to hundreds of Exhibits to thousands of 1950-‘s Topps and Bowmans

I received the catalog yesterday, but out of curiosity, what are Set 81, Set 82, and Set 83 Exhibits? Are these the different variations of the 1926-31 Exhibits?

A "possible" signed Ty Cobb ball?

That is the 'old school' way of referencing the PC Back set. Woody Scharf broke them down that way as part of his effort to catalog every exhibit baseball set. They happened to be the 81st-83rd sets he cataloged in articles in The Trader Speaks.

Speaking of being stumped

I have tried to go on Lew's web site just to view the items and no links seem to be available.

He's got a new autograph policy which isn't printed in the catalog and the site says is only available on request...
