Things that make you go hummm?
I know this isn't a pre 1980, but wanted to get your thoughts.
I saw this auction and couldn't help but chuckle. How does a card or should I say 1/4 of a card get a 9.5 grade? How can one accurately grade only a quarter of a card? http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Topps-A...#ht_563wt_1189 |
Where's the rest of it?

How can that even be considered a card? I can think of so many cards from the 50's that I would love to have to plop down $500 on , or you can have the cutting floor scrapes ? nice corners on the card though....:D Brett

This is the first trim job that I've seen on the inside of a card. I guess it would have been a 10 if not for the huge hole in the middle.
$500.00 for a card with no picture? I don't get it. |
The complete card was pulled from production and they changed the die cutting to remove the picture so the cards would be easier to find and remove.
Obviously some got through, and the cutout card isn't common. But $500 seems a bit silly to me too. Hey, I've got a bit of a classic brand card that was the strip between cards before cutting that I'd let go for $250:D Steve B |

Frank,
It happens more often than you think, especially when folks don't know what they are doing/looking at. Witness: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Wills68baz.jpghttp://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ierbazooka.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...xtipswills.jpg |

Topps
I have all my Topps pre 1995 sets in binders and have tried to get all the variations listed by SCD for those sets. After 1994 the regular sets are all still in boxes, except for a run of all the Heritage sets
Post 1994 I have not done many variations, but the Gordon card was one exception because of the hobby publicity it got when Topps pulled it from the set. It was supposed to be card 297. I ended up with 3 versions of it. The cut out ( mine is only Becket 9 :) ), the white blank version...no cut out but no image, just Royals at top and name/position on bottom, and one of the actual pulled cards with regular front and back( several made it into the hobby). The latter is in an SCG 88 holder |

Topps 1961 & 1962 stamps get graded as individual stamps, pairs of stamps, and pairs of stamps with the panel. The 1968 Action stickers ONLY get graded as pieces of the original issue, due to the size of the original. I don't own graded cards, so you'll have to imagine from the scans below, where the "pieces" come from for grading. Quote:
