Connie Mack and Kid Gleason talk about the old days, 1930
 

This is a fun video of Connie Mack and Black Sox manager Kid Gleason on March 17, 1930, reminiscing about the old days of baseball. I had never heard Connie Mack’s voice until fairly recently, in another video, and it still sounds kind of strange to me, different than I always imagined it.

Even tho they didnt give a lot of specific details and kept their conversation kind of surfacey... I was absolutely rivited. Hanging on every word. Really cool.

That was a really good, short video. I like them talking about no shin guards and the gloves with the long fingers.

I was also surprised to hear Mack pronouncing “Mathewson” like “Madison”.

Bob Keefe? Gleason seems like he took a few too many high hard ones. Great video though!

Love it! Hope there is more footage that comes to light, Connie Mack sure could be an interesting interview.

The Philadelphia A's Historical Society (a few miles down the road from me) would have a luncheon every November honoring A's old-timers. Over the years honored guest were
Lou Brissie, Ferris Fain, Eddie Joost, Eddie Robinson, Bobby Shantz, Gus Zernial (and many more).

In 2000, a very special guest was honored....Connie Mack III. Connie got up and talked about his famous Grandfather for about 2 hours. It was fascinating to hear all his stories.
Especially, since it was coming from a member of the Mack family.

Afterwards, I got a chance to converse with Connie for about 20 minutes, and we had a really interesting conversation talking Baseball. Plus, he signed my 1950 A's Program.

I highly recommend (if you haven't already read it) an excellent book...."Connie Mack and the Early Years of Baseball", by Norman Macht.

I think Gleason was actually saying “(what) about Keefe”, because had just been saying “what about those pitchers they had back then”.

Upon re-listening, you are correct, Sir!! "'Bout Keefe?"

I hear that now. Mack sounds like Jimmy Cagney in an old gangster movie
