Sgc grading
Any thoughts on how new SGC grading scale will help their
Card Values? |
really there isn't any change, they merely eliminated their slightly more confusing primary number eg. 82, 86, 98. But those "strange" numbers were always accompanied by the "regular" scale that PSA users are used to.

Incorrect. They added a new grade, Mint +.
So now they have: Mint 9 (old 96) Mint + 9.5 (equivalent to 9.25 in PSA?) Gem Mint 10 (old 98) Pristine (no number, old 100) People are definitely in a wait and see mode with SGC. There is a big time submittter (thousand cards a month type) on Blowout who is really pushing for SGC to become big time, but they botched the roll-out of the new scale online and at the National. And supposedly had very few submissions at both the National and the East Coast National White Plains show. I personally think they jumped the shark, and this is the beginning of the end. But then, I'm a PSA guy for the most part. |
Still a relatively minor change, not a wholesale rethinking of their system.
Just got my first new SGC submission back I would argue that in essence the only difference is an added grade which in the old system would've been 97. Old - New 96 = 9 Mint xx = 9.5 MINT+ 98 = 10 Gem Mint 100 = 10 (Gold) Pristine I actually wonder if this might prompt PSA to add the 9.5 somewhere along the line. You know how they love to encourage regrades. |
