help on cobb photo

I posted this on the type 1 cobb photo thread, since then I removed it from frame. The only thing on back is Ty Cobb in pencil.

Photo is glossy on thin paper. On 3 corners some of the photo has peeled off and is worn. It is quite flexible just wondering what type of print is this? Looking at the uniform looks to be 1915-16 uniform.

Size is 5 x 7 inches.

Thanks Joe

It is the right size to be a vintage contact print (like Bain photos) which is a good thing. The image is clearly off the original negative and appears to be original but would need to see the sheen and/or feel it in person to be sure. It would be very thin paper if an original contact print, glossy on the front and rougher paper on the back. If you could post a scan of the back and maybe one where it is tilted to the light I could be much more specific about the image.

It is glossy on the front and rough paper on back, here are more pics. It is thin paper. The 2 small pieces of tap on top back are where pic was attached when framed.

Thanks in advance

Looks original, and a great pose. It's gelatin-silver print, which simply was the
standard type of photograph of the day. 99% of baseball photos from that time
were gelatin-silver.

I'm not a uniform expert at all. I saw on a google search that the same photo was listed as 1911.

According to this site, looks like 1916 logo on uniform.

Thanks, I was pretty sure that it was 1916.

Definitely 1916, and possibly the same photo session as this based on the background and how Cobb is wearing his hat, plus the rare smile ;)
