How do you know it is fake?

Advice straight from the sinus

The seller's first name is apparently Booga. I say it be best to keep your nose clean and stay clear of all Boogas you encounter.

$30 asking price is a pretty good indicator. It is a blurry scan, but it still doesn't quite look right.

Here is a scan. What do you see that indicates it is not an original? I’d like to learn. Thanks.

It's not even the same card as the one in the ad.

The one in the scans just doesn't have the sharpness a real one would have, and the damage is an odd combination of real looking and fake looking, almost as if it was printed on.

I bought a couple like this on Ebay from Canada. They looked ok in scans, but were obviously fake once I got them. They were cheap, maybe $10 so I'll eventually make some decorative thing from them.

On the scan posted by rkrolewicz, I agree wit hwhat Steve B said and would also add that the back seems kinda greyish as opposed to cream

thanks

Erasure marks/paper loss on back where "Renata Galasso Reprint" goes:

Here is a legitimate card to compare with the one you posted, and in the last two scans a reprint being sold on ebay.

For one thing, that is not natural corner wear. It appears to have been sanded down on each corner, both front and back. The real card I show has much more natural corner wear...over its life it bumped into things, not hung around the wood shop. Also note that on the reprint the 'Boston' and copyright circle are both faded. Surprise, the card you showed also has those aspects. As also previously mentioned, the back of the card should be creamy. And the quality of the front image is just not as high of caliber as the real thing.

And don't forget, real Babe Ruth Goudey cards in lower condition will cost you between 30 to 50 times what this seller is asking.

30 bucks is a cheap lesson...go and buy it and have it in your hands....go to a dealer and compare to a real one

for 30 bucks thats a cheap lesson.....no need to get everyone's 2 cents.as opposed to the card being for sale for 1000+

pokerplyr80 09-14-2018 01:51 PM

You'd probably get a better rate of return spending 30 bucks on Powerball tickets than you would buying raw Goudey Ruths on Facebook. This is before considering that the seller's name is Booga.

if you learned the car was real, would you tell them that..

actually would be funny to just buy the card..submit another ruth and get a new graded ruth to show the person..thanks for the card for 30 bucks....i dont think its real but psa did!...

CobbSpikedMe 09-14-2018 05:04 PM

The red corners should all be sharper corners even if the corners of the actual card are rounded due to wear. They shouldn't be round like the ones on the card in question.

It would be worth the 30 bucks just to hear his reaction.

in addition to the red flags mentioned above, look at the red bar beneath ruth and see how it aligns perfectly with the central image on the right side? that perfect alignment is something you often see in reprints. the red bar should extend beyond the central image on both sides by a noticeable amount. also, dead on centering in combination with the other red flags is often an indication of a reprint.
