Hope there's not a rule about who gets to start these threads, but I just had to share.

I acquired a stack of memorabilia belonging to a coach local to my hometown, Fresno, CA.

He was a little league coach to Tom Seaver and Jim Maloney. Here's a look at one of his notebooks/scrapbooks...fascinating stuff.

Jim Maloney and Tom Seaver were certainly two of the greatest hurlers (or players) to ever hail from Fresno. I think that Jim Maloney still lives there if I'm not mistaken.

BTW, I met Mr. Maloney about 3 years ago at Reds fest and had a chance to speak to him about his two no-hitters (and his third unofficial no-hitter). Great guy!

Thank you fellow member Paul for the piece and a deciphering job that was much better than my own. :D

Goes something like this...

Messrs. Gilbert & Wells,

We send you today for RR to ? 14 larger sacks which we suppose will hold balance of your stock of scraps.

If we were to pack them we should string up the sack at the 4 corners by cords to the joists on ceiling overhead just allowing the bottom of the sack to touch the floor--then put a man inside the sack to tend them and get in twice as many.

Very cool Mike. Harwood was the first mfg of baseballs, I believe, and this letterhead is only a few years after they began operations.

Thanks Joe....and you are correct. Harwood was founded in 1858 and the first baseball factory in the world. Interesting that the original building was closed in 1998 and has now been converted into condominiums.

The word in front of "RR" is probably via. 'We send to you today via RR (railroad) to ...' The word after to looks like Fonda.

Won this last night in Mears Auction.

Was able to pick up a few new lineup cards. These were found in an old barn in Virginia. It looks like a kid tried writing the names of the players on some of these. Somehow he confused "Williams, LF" for the Red Sox. At 38 years old Williams batted .388 and finished 2nd in the MVP race to some guy named Mantle.

Really excited to find 2 new HOF managers in Lopez and Boudreau (brings my total up to 15 different HOF'ers), along with the cool Red Sox card and a nice Orioles line-up card.

I don't collect pins or pennants but the pieces shared here are awesome. What year on the Buster Brown pin? At first glance, I saw the Morton's and thought salt. Neat stuff.

Thanks for the information. Where the pins distributed with each purchase of shoes or an in-store freebie? I did a search on Buster Brown pins and baseball and the results returned a ton of Buster Brown pins, which was neat, since I was unaware that such an item existed, but I did not see any pins with baseball players depicted.

Is there a definitive guide for collecting pins and pennants? I really don't want to start collecting either collectible but the items shown on the board are inspiring!

The author is a Net54 member (lefty147, I believe) and there is a second edition as well. I hate to speak for Mike but he might still be selling the guides for about half of that amazon price.

For pins: Baseball Pinback Buttons by Paul Muchinsky. A beautiful, full color, 600 page hardback. It's out of print and I think nearly impossible to find.

My first add to my 1970s/80s Yankees collection. Picked up a 1978 Burger King Yankees poster off eBay for less than 5 bucks shipped. Just need to frame it when I can. Had this poster as a kid and have been wanting to pick it up again for a while and Im glad I was able to.

Thanks. One of things I am fascinated with is how long these trunks were used/remained in the team’s inventory. I have one Yankees trunk that I know was used from the early 1930s well into the 1960s (evidenced by shipping label information). Others are a bit more interesting because they are personal team trunks and have a real connection to time and place. Of these I have three:

1937-1938 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Trainer Trunk. (Edward Froelich) One of the first “team trainers” to actually have studied the field of sports medicine if you will.

1934-1937 New York Yankees Team Physician Trunk for Medical Supplies & Equipment. (Dr. E.A. Spies) I can’t help but wonder if Dr. Spies gave Ruth his last Yankee’s physical, given DiMaggio his first Yankee’s physical, and also treated Gehrig in some manner at the close of his career.

Late 1940s/Early 1950s Cleveland Indians Traveling Secretary Trunk. (Spud Goldstein) This one is interesting as there is some anecdotal evidence to suggest that Goldstein may have initially transported Larry Doby’s uniforms to prevent them from being vandalized.

All of them harken back to a time of train travel and Pullman cars.

I've been after a Matty World Series win ticket for a long time. Was finally able to get this 1911 game 1 full ticket.

Was happy to get this great Railroad Poster for the 1950 Army Navy football game. It's 25x40...great large size display.

Acquired from JT Sports (John Taube).

Chuck Miller game used bat (tons of use, plethora of nails on the back barrel). Bat is a Spalding gold medal bat, circa 1909, dead ball era. He played several years in the bigs & minors...side written, returned to the factory in the 20's.

Wow. Looks like you'd get sprayed by infield dirt just by standing next to it. What size is it?

Framed it measures 22" x 27". The flying dirt does look pretty cool.

In full disclosure I picked up this 11X14 Les Banos photo of Clemente last month and forgot to share it.

That's a very, very cool bat.
I just wanted to mention that I thought the Spalding Gold Medal series decal bats first appeared circa 1905, discontinued by 1908, with the Gold Medal Autograph series beginning in 1909. This could make your bat a little earlier. If the bat though came from John Taube and he calls it 1909, I'm sure he knows best. That's a great pick up, congrats!

Thanks Ben, Banos took some beautiful photos. I was torn about this one. Banos, who served as the Pirates team photographer for many years died 5 years ago. For obvious reasons I love his work. This photo originates from negatives owned by the Roberto Clemente museum. I was told that only a handful of this image were printed from the original Banos negative. I have other signed Banos images. This one lacks that distinction. Nonetheless, it is a large photo printed on museum quality archival photo paper. Prior to purchasing it I communicated with a photo expert I respect. He said that this was more of an art purchase than a collectible news photo. I love the beauty of the image and decided to pull the trigger based on my love of the image's subject and the quality/beauty of the image. Nonetheless, this serves as a reminder to buy what I love not what is necessarily considered as an investment.

I counted over 100 nails in the back barrel, wow. John thinks it could've maybe been used over many years, minors and possibly majors.

The Bucs stopped using black batting helmets after the 1970 season. Great photo, though.

Picked up a Yogi Berra Spline bat for cheap. It looks fantastic next to my Mickey Mantle Spline.
Some wood loss, and the bat is really dry looking, but has someone clearly used it.

Faint marker on the knob reads something?? 8(?). Or maybe 88, 38, or even BB (bat boy?).
