This Doolin with a split front (and back) sold on ebay last week.

This is the third one that I know of but oddly they all have different degrees
in the splits.

that's cool!

Probably all from the same vertical column of the same sheet.

If the size is off, and you're cutting progressively, the error gets larger as you go along.
So the least off would be an earlier cut, and the most off the latest cut.

If the sheets had a larger margin on the top than the bottom, a sheet that was upside down in relation to the others would start pretty far off center.

Steve, that makes perfect sense to a loser like me. Seems very reasonable as that's what happened here.

Thanks Steve, I was hoping you had an explanation for the variation in the
miscuts.

Here's two Young's but I'm not sure if the 2nd one is a PD150.

I wonder if the seller had any idea of the value of that card.

Luke 04-23-2017 08:38 PM

I think they had some idea. They ran it as an auction and it reached pretty much a market price (at least it seems that way to me but I don't know the scrap market as well a some).

Here's my Knight miscut.

Also, Chris created this cool photo montage a couple years ago.

I think these were the known front miscuts at the time, possibly a few more have surfaced since (I know Chris found another example, 2 players).

Prices have "yo-yo'd" a bit over the years, but seems like they are picking up steam again. Pretty rare/special cards.

Doolin is one of the players on the front of my upside down four-back Pied 150. Not sure which one is his back in the scan, just know it's not top right

Hey Mike. Here's the Pastorius/Lake that Chris found (I think Jamie has it now)
and a couple more, A 2nd Jordan and a Powell.

I think there's also another Green Cobb.

Big Change in price, as I believe the first one sold for nearly $9,500 in REA, the second one closer to $3,850, and this latest ebay one for under $1,200.

Perhaps the last one would have done better in an Auction House.

Does make me happy I stopped bidding on that first one - I think I bowed out at $4k (w/o vig) back in 2013

no me thinks the freaks hype has subsided...kind of like titusitis!

sreader3 04-24-2017 04:45 PM

I think there is a Doolin-Lundgren (Chicago) vertical miscut out there somewhere. Not sure what that has to do with anything. Maybe others (Steve B.) will have some ideas?

Here's the discussion thread, but, alas, no pictures. http://www.network54.com/Forum/15365...06-T205+Sheets

Blunder19 04-24-2017 08:05 PM

Jamie, really special card, glad you have it now.

Pete et al- yes prices have relaxed on freaks/scraps, etc...but I do think the front miscuts will always have a special niche; extremely rare, and the more you see of the next card, the more valuable it is. So the examples with just a sliver of the next card showing, won't command that much in the end.
