Storing T-206

How do you store your tobacco cards?

g_vezina_c55 02-03-2013 07:32 PM

Tobacco card top loader... in a Mom's special homemade tobacco top loader box :)

EvilKing00 02-03-2013 07:37 PM

i have t205's BUT either they are graded(slabed) or RAW put in a 4 screw, screwdown holder and kept in a real cool wood box made for graded cards i bought from a guy on this board. its awesome

Penny sleeve inside a Topps-sized top loader inside a flat white card box.

I store my T210's in a binder using Ultra Pro Tobacco pages (15 pocket.)

steve B 02-03-2013 09:20 PM

All the raw cards go in sleeves in toploaders, just the regular sized ones. Then into a shoebox box.

Some more modern stuff goes the same way into a 4 row box, but they stopped making the ones that will hold the toploaders:(

All the graded stuff goes in here. There's more than when I took the picture, but it will be a long time before I fill it up.

(Rob D.) That, my friend, is a thing of beauty.

I've been trying to figure out the best way to store my newly acquired homemade vintage card collection. I have packs of standard sized penny sleeves and top loaders, but the tiny (1.25" x 2") cards just get lost in there. I'll have to search out these mini top loaders and the nice case.

Thanks for the photos (Rob D & Steve B) - very inspiring.

Mine are all just in tobacco sleeves (no top-loaders), stacked in a 1910-era soap box.

Bocabirdman 02-04-2013 04:29 AM

I glue mine into a vintage photo album. Two staples hold them in place while the glue dries.:D

Does anyone know where I can buy just the tobacco sleeves without the top loaders?

My storage:
T206: Stacked raw in groups of about 20ish in those 25 ct hard plastic two piece boxes, then those placed in a wooden box/small crate type thingy that used to hold cassette tapes I think. Graded cards are in a similar box sorta like an old cheese box that I picked up for a dollar or two in an antique store.

t205 hofers: laying flat in a flat-file type cabinet with 1"-2" deep drawers. Along with the other tobacco cards in my pre-war type collection.

t207's some in the flat file, others in an inexpensive dark wood box from an antique store.

Rob D. - Beautiful picture!

My father-in-law makes these boxes. Nothing is available right now.

http://www.dakotawoodcrafts.com

He's sold about 2 dozen of those 'T206' boxes and 2 dozen 'Graded Card' boxes to date. Currently he is designing a similar box to hold standard sized (3x4in) top loaders. Probably hold about 3-400 cards. I will be looking at a prototype later this week. When they are available - look for a post on Net54!

Two staples and glue couldn't come close to messing a card up as bad as Rube is. I wish I knew what actually happened to him. The guy I got him from, picked him up already twisted.:)

I store my T206's separately from my post-war cards in a smaller 1.3 cubic foot safe. The cardboard boxes made for graded cards wouldn't fit in the safe so had my collection inside the safe in an unorganized and random manner. I made these two boxes to fit snugly in the safe and it allows me to better organize my cards, both graded and ungraded, in rows. It won't hold the complete set but does have enough space for another 100 cards or so.

I Only Smoke 4 the Cards 02-04-2013 06:00 AM

Wow! You guys have some fantastic boxes. I keep mine in standard top loaders in a late-nineties Nike shoe box.

aquarius31 02-04-2013 06:24 AM

Those are some quality boxes. The chipboard boxes from aboxfactory are actually very durable and work very well.

I don't know - mine came with top loaders, so I have piles of tobacco top loaders lying around. If I ever purchase large raw groupings, I'll use them for shipping.

I wasn't kidding about the soapbox - because of the massive plastic slabs, people forget how little room T206s actually take up. The sleeves provide fine protection and make the cards more accessible. Also, I can store half the set in a tiny soapbox. I keep the soapbox in one of Jon's boxes, along with a pile of other raw cards.

This hobby doesn't have to cover your entire home.

I do have some graded (like from Lionel Carter Collection)cards that I store in boxes, but my raw tobacco cards I keep in the 15-pocket sheets in the binders above from Archival Methods. The binders are more expensive than my cards haha (around $45 w/the slip case) but I think they look nice and keep dust away etc.

atx840 02-04-2013 03:05 PM

I remember seeing that box Scott, pretty cool that you kept it.

I store my graded and raw cards in Peligan cases. The big case was $160 and the smaller case was $36.

sb1 02-04-2013 05:17 PM

10 pocket pages from Martin Murray in 2 ring binder albums, just like the collectors across the pond.

Does the case come with the foam and you cut it yourself, or is that extra?

From a recent Ebay ad about PWCC Auctions, I found a link to these cases from Card Case Pro and I will be purchasing one. They look to be really well built.

Anyone have experience with them?

I attached pictures of my raw t206 storage and the flat file I mentioned.

Tony - I dig the flat file cabinet; very nice! I've never seen cards displayed in that manner.

[QUOTE=Nikpounder;1083697]Does the case come with the foam and you cut it yourself, or is that extra?

I bought the case from someone on here a few years back. I told him I had SGC Cards and made the foam to fit it. I might still have the e-mail. The small case has the pluck small squares, which I have been pulling out to fit the number of my raw cards.

Tonyo - Can you post a photo of one of the open drawers?

This is the way to go, I use pelican cases to store many items beyond cards.

Card storage

I screwed a few pine pine boards together and placed them into a chest of drawers that sits perpndicular to my computer table. A quick swivel of my chair and I can go from the computer to getting out a card in about 5 seconds. Total cost about $8.

Joem36 02-07-2013 12:12 PM

So cool. Who needs clothes when you could have cards.

piedmont150 02-07-2013 12:37 PM

Awesome use for a dresser.. Very cool

tiger8mush 02-08-2013 11:29 AM

oldphil, very neat storage dresser!

question - I understand 15-pocket (3 rows, 5 columns) pages fit great for t206s and many other tobacco cards like t205s, t207s, t210s, etc. What about candy cards like E95s and E96s etc that are slightly wider? do they make a 12-pocket (3 rows, 4 columns) pages? I realize there are 12-pocket pages that are 4 rows x 3 columns but those are for tattoo orbits and 1948-50 Bowmans and are too short for the e96-style caramels.

If anyone knows of a place/website to get 12-pocket pages that are 3 rows x 4 columns I'd be much appreciated! Thanks!
Rob

Oldphil has to have clothes. But I'm wondering if he keeps his cards in a dresser, how does he get his clothes into binders?;)
