Posted By: Alan Elefson
Ryan-
The 51 Redbacks are an easy and inexpensive way to form a 1950s set. A large unopened pack find in the mid 1980s have kept prices at a minimum. Packs are still available at about 50.00 each (or less) and hall of famers go for less than 50.00 even in nice condition (although I assume graded hofers in high grade sell for more). Be wary of paper wrinkles when buying this issue. There is also a variation to the set that has each card attached in two card panels. That variation is tougher to put together as a set (the panels sell for less than double the individual card prices, usually), but it is doable. I believe the two panel cards were used both in a complete set baggy as well as buffers for the team and Connie Mack cards of the same year. I hope this information helps!
Alan Elefson
aelefson@hotmail.com
Posted By: Alan Elefson
In my opinion, the graded packs are priced too high. However, I have not purchased any in several years and I also do not like (nor collect) anything that is graded. I would advise checking with a reputable unopened vintage packs dealer, and see if you can get them for closer to 50 (maybe 75). I am hoping others might chime in as I have not colleted this issue for several years.
Alan Elefson
aelefson@hotmail.com
