Home Run Baker - Polar Bear
Posted By: Eric Brehm
This T206 Baker card sold on eBay for about book value (SMR says $315 for PSA 5). I thought Polar Bear backs usually carried a significant premium? Is this more indication of a softening market for T206?

http://cgi.ebay.com/T206-Home-Run-Baker-Philadelphia-N-L-PSA-5_W0QQitemZ300176178129QQihZ020QQcategoryZ31718QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Home Run Baker - Polar Bear
Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
This sale price for an Ex graded Baker is consistent with current T206 market values. The fact that it has a Polar Bear back (in my
opinion) doesn't add that much to it. Polar Bear backs are very common in the 350/460 series, of which Baker was printed in.

I might add, that when I was putting together my Piedmont set, I had a tough time finding Baker with a Piedmont 350 or 460 back.
And, that is very unusual.

TED Z

Home Run Baker - Polar Bear
Posted By: Jason
I was the buyer of this Baker card, and was pretty happy with the price. I've been buying mid-grade (5) t206 Hall of Famers for the past 6-8 months, and I've certainly seen prices come down. Based on VCP, many of the recent sales in mid-grade cards are the lowest listed over the past couple of years. I know less than most of the veterans on this site have forgotten, but in this area at least, it does seem like there's some softness. In any case, I'm happy, since I've been getting what I find to be nice cards for reasonable prices - in fact, I managed to win a couple more tonight...

Home Run Baker - Polar Bear
Posted By: Rob Dewolf
Eric,

I know I've read opinions on this board from more than a few people who think that higher grade Polar Bears carry a premium because it's tougher to find Polar Bears without the product stains, given that they were packaged differently than the other brands. So while the Polar Bear backs themselves are not scarce, they're at least a bit tougher to find in higher grades.

Again, just passing along what I've read here previously.
