Posted By: <b>Gilbert Maines</b><p>There is no disputing that the low number portion of this set appears in several distinct color variations.<br /><br />For the most part, the higher numbers do not have the same color diversity. However, I clearly observe the following variations: Deep Forest Green, Dark Blue, Light grey blue, Brown, black and white.<br /><br />Arguably the black and white cards could be further subdivided as follows: black + cream, black + orange/cream.<br /><br />There very well may be other variants. I am uncertain whether each card comes in all colors. The rarity of these, and potentially other colors, is unclear.<br /><br />Anyone have any observations to share on this? Rebuttals? Expansions/clarifications/opinions?<br /><br /><br />Edited to add: that light silvery grey-blue sometimes comes with a cream background. This is THE color card!

Posted By: <b>Chris Counts</b><p>I have long been fascinated by this underappreciated set and earlier I started a thread about the low # color variations. In the course of my research, I received an email from someone telling me a story about how somebody they knew had a relative who worked at National Chicle in the 1930s. The writer was told a story that if you added up every color variation of every card, you would end up with exactly 1,000 cards. I did some quick math and I guess it is possible. It's certainly an interesting theory ...<br /><br />Regarding the color variations of high numbers, it would be nice to see some scans from board members. I've never seen the light grey blue ...<br />

Posted By: <b>Gilbert Maines</b><p>I wish I could show you these, I have all of these that I mentioned, except my forest green which I sold to Jimi (where did he go?), but my scanner hasn't hooked itself up yet, and Id never be able to figure out how to post anyway.<br />Well thats not true. It can only require a keyboard a mouse and knowledge. I have two of those.

Posted By: <b>Brad Green</b><p><br />I would say that the green, red and purple are equally tough. The blue and brown are easy to find. The grey (bottom right) is hard to distinguish from the brown, but I think the grey is somewhere between brown and green in terms of rarity.<br /><br />Edited to add that my opinion on the rarity of the colors may be distorted because I only look for Lefty Grove cards...<br /><br />
