1949 season pass that belonged to John Dooley, founding member of the Royal Rooters and the man who put the Red Sox on Huntington Ave. He attended every Boston home opener from 1894 until his death in 1970. I'm happy just to get tickets.

Here are a couple of pretty cool BoSox Pennants....

The first features their nifty "Batting Sock" Mascot from the '50s... this little guy appeared on cards and programs quite a bit, but is surprisingly tough to find on vintage pennants.

Second is an oversized Red Sox Pennant from the early teens - a true work of art...

Oldtix 07-13-2009 11:31 AM

Jack McCallister managed the 1927 Cleveland Indians and was a scout for the Red Sox in the early 1930s.

This is not my picture. Found it on the Web. It's a Library of Congress photo, I believe. Thought it would be apropos for this thread. Shown are: Cy Young, Jake Stahl, Bill Carrigan and one Mr. Michael T. McGreevey at Red Sox spring training in 1912.

Great bathhouses, pretty town and very warm people. But it does have a change of seasons and gets snow, which means cccold to this wimp. Heck, even Jacksonville, Fla hits 32* and snows albeit rarely.
Tough for a hardcore Mainer to understand my whining though ;)

Glad your back posting.

Loved the 1912 photo the last time I saw it, Greg. It just keeps looking better. I think the angle is a bit different than the PC.

I've seen a few slightly different views of this photo. You really have to do a double take to notice the differences.

Best,

The Outfield

We just picked this up and I wanted to add it to this awesome thread.

http://www.rrauction.com/RedSoxImmortals.jpg

GKreindler 08-17-2009 02:52 PM

Here's one to revive this thread too. The same caveat applies: I'm a HORRIBLE photographer, and my basement studio doesn't lend itself nicely to shooting. With that in mind, please understand that it's not a good representation of the painting. Once I get it photographed, I'll post the professionally-done photo.

Another Conlon shot. Those of you who were at the National may have seen me working on it, and perhaps even threw a tomato or two. It's finally done, and after a varnish is being shipped out to its owner.

Oh, and for those of you who are curious, in the late 30s and early 40s, the Yankees would cover the tops of their home and away dugouts with a huge red tarp during special events. In this case, it's Opening Day at the Stadium in 1939, and with the Sox in town, this young man is about to start a brilliant career.

thekingofclout 08-18-2009 08:24 PM

That red background is a direct result of the dozen tomatoes I hurled at the artist, but missed. He's a slippery little guy, but he sure can paint!

Ladder7 08-23-2009 01:41 PM

Some of a group of deckle edged fan snapshots featuring the Splinter -Sox vs Indians. I believe 1947, the first year of the lights. Also, the year the first Hancock Tower was built (missing, off right field) and a very prominent structure in the early Beantown skyline. I don't have these in hand yet and can't date with certainty and any related comments are appreciated.

All kidding aside, everyone stop what you are doing and check out Joe's link. There is a fantastic bunch of deadball era BoSox pictures, most of which I've never seen before. Be prepared to spend some time. Thx for the link, Joe D.

I've always loved the 1939 Baseball Magazine cover featuring Ted's swing. The 1946 Liberty Magazine isn't as familiar.
