Who says books don't have hidden treasures?

Posted By: Mike
Along with Baseball memorabilia, I collect old books. Meaning from before 1900. I don't do it so much anymore. I also used to go through all the sports (baseball books) looking for autographs. Of course all antique book sellers know who the big guys are, Ruth, mantle, Cobb, etc. etc. But they do not know many great players from the past. I picked up many rare autographs using this method.

Who says books don't have hidden treasures?

Posted By: Dan Bretta
My brother bought a two dollar book on ebay and found a 1962 Topps baseball 1 cent wrapper inside. I was at an auction a couple of years ago and while looking at the old books I discovered about 5 or 6 of them had come from the library of J. Sterling Morton who was the founder of Arbor Day....Only one of them had his name written in it..the rest all had a sticker that said they were from his library. Unfortunately I wasn't the only one to notice and I let the other guy have the book for $50...I had no idea how much it would be worth. I picked up a few of the other books that came from his library for a couple bucks each.
