SGC processing times
Been a while since I’ve seen one of these threads so I thought I’d document it with a small 11 card sub that I just sent out to SGC.
Mailed: 12/14/23 Received by SGC: 12/19/23 |
I hear you, and also have an order of one card received by them on 12/19 as well. It is on the same 5-10 business time frame, but mine carries an $85 fee due to a $3499 valuation. Let's compare notes on this.

Got grades on 12/18 |
That Mackey is a great card, Jamie. I used to own one of the other four or five known graded examples. Mine was a 1.5.

Submission done under the 5-10 business day turnaround:
11/04 - left 6 card(3 regular, 3 oversized) order with SGC at Boston show 11/17 - cards were listed as "post grading processing" on website 11/27 - contacted SGC through website inquiring about why my order was taking so long 11/28 - email received from Brent at SGC stating cards should ship soon 11/30 - I emailed back and said status has still not changed 12/01 - email received from Brent at SGC stating he'll try to move the order along and apologized for any inconvenience 12/05 - I emailed back and basically said I want this resolved today 12/05 - email received from Brent at SGC stating a member of his team is looking into why this is taking so long 12/05 - email received from Brent at SGC stating it took longer due to oversize cards 12/05 - cards shipped on SGC website, email received stating order shipped 12/08 - cards arrived at my home Just my experience, your mileage may vary!!!!! |
I sent in a 5-10 day service 40 card order that was delivered on 11/21 and scanned in on 11/22. It was shipped back to me on 12/4, which was 6 business days later, as it fell over the long Thanksgiving weekend.
All of my cards received grade bumps over what PSA gave them, many of which were 2 full grades higher. |

Were they crossovers or crack outs? |
You can't beat the turnaround times for SGC, no matter if a slight delay from the 5-10 estimated time frame.
I have been using SGC for the bulk of my grading for over 20 years now. I will admit there were some frustrating moments during Covid, but Brent was able to straighten out. Too my point. I sent a 2 card sub to PSA in October, cards that I bought in SGC slabs but I cracked out and thought I would see how PSA would grade them. It was a 65 day estimated turnaround time. Cards received on 10/13 and now it shows an estimated completion date of 1/29/24. |
Mine was marked received on 12/4. No news yet.

Another reason why SGC is so much better than PSA. You can combine crossovers, reholders, and raw cards all in the same submission without having to pay seperate s/h fees for your order. |
Meanwhile at PSA, submitted 10/4 -> still in grading, though they have added an ESTIMATED COMPLETION date of 1/12/24. 3 months is much faster than my last order that I put in when I was in college, and I am now a grandfather ready to retire.....

Mailed a batch to SGC in November from Canada. It took 28 days from the day I shipped them to the day I received them back at my house in Canada. Super happy with that type of turnaround time!

I mail a small order every few weeks. Happy with customer service grades and turnaround.

I don't think I tracked my previous SGC orders as closely, as they came back quickly in the stated timeline.
But I just noticed that when I click on my invoice for my 12/4 order, some things have been updated - a lot now say "2023 Do Not Grade No Charge" which is quite the bummer, and 3 now say "2023 To Be Entered" - so perhaps they just need to identify/label/slab the remaining 3? |

Mine's finally getting close!
Submitted - 11/27 Received - 12/4 Post-Grading - 1/12 Grading & Shipment - ? They decided not to grade my Calbee Homerun cards (even after I made a 400-card photo-reference website for them), but for a hot second they considered it, as I saw 3 of them switch from "Do Not Grade No Charge" to the actual card info, before they ultimately changed them back to "Do Not Grade". And as for the processing time discrepancy on my order....well, I am keeping SGC on their toes. Besides confusing them with my Calbee Homerun cards, three other cards had slowed down the order: 1) One card is now entered as "Hand cut" (so maybe there was a decision to be made about that) 2) One card was a stamped "Prize" card (in the same vein of the Cablee Homerun cards, but Yamakatsu factory-stamped a logo on the back) that I assume they had to decide whether to grade and how to label 3) The final troublesome card was from a 1957 set, but the player was from 1958, so it probably required a decision on renaming the whole set. I do see that it has been entered as 1958 on my invoice Now to wait for grades to populate...... |
I know this is an updated thread for SGC current grading times, but I did see enough PSA references in here to say that I’ve been sending my cards to PSA for the last few months on the bulk, lowest value level expecting a three or four month turn around and getting them back in a month to month and a half. They were mostly modern cards, so I went psa and was pleasantly surprised.
Just sent off my first vintage lot in a while to SGC last week- will update when they return. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Submitted - 12/21
Received by SGC - 12/23 (Saturday, two days before Christmas.) (What an idiot I am to send an order in amidst two back to back holiday weekends. Oy.) Returned to Me - 1/12/24 That's 13 business days from landing in Boca to arriving back in my hands. |

SGC makes others look soooooo bad! :) |
I sent some cards to SGC a couple months ago after eBay authentication said my raw 1970 Nolan Ryan was trimmed. It took 2 weeks and 1 day from the day they received the cards to the day I had the cards back in hand. With PSA it would have been 3 months or more.

I sent in a few cards on Christmas Eve, and they were finished yesterday. Considering Christmas and New Years, this wasn't bad and I am extremely happy with their turn around times.
I was concerned about the overprint on the back of the 33 Goudey for Grimm, but it didn't count against the card - I'm pleased with that - pictures attached. My 36 sport stamp of Foxx looks great in it's new holder. Forgive me for including a newer card in the thread, but I couldn't resist showing off this Acuna! |

Mailed: 12/14/23 Received by SGC: 12/19/23 Post-grading: 1/2/24 Grades posted / order shipped: 1/18/24 Received by me: 1/22/24 Quite a delay on a 5-10 day sub but I think it was due to the Wheaties card that was oversized. I do have one card headed back with a labeling error. |
My first SGC submission in about five years. Really surprised how easy it was to fill out my order. 32 cards submitted, 3 were cracked out of PSA slabs all 3 got the same grade from SGC. As soon as you hit submit your credit card is charged (which is fine but I don't remember that). It's $15 a card, and I already sent in another 19 cards. I live in Florida and since SGC is also in Florida your mailing times might be greater.
Mailed to SGC 1/12 Delivered to SGC 1/16 Received by SGC 1/17 Graded by SGC 2/1 Mailed by SGC 2/2 Arrived at my house 2/5 (today) marked Received by SGC to Delivered to me: 14 business days |
For anyone foolish enough to try the "Immediate" grading option, currently $40 (1-2 business days is the quote) - I did this recently on a single card order - one because I could, and two because it was an expensive card and wanted it back quickly.
I'm pleased to report that the service is as advertised. Once the card was logged in at SGC, it flipped to Post Grading Processing about 4 hours later. Did not ship until the next day, but still within the standard. I was very pleased. If only the USPS was as quick as SGC... |
My most recent SGC order:

Sent through a third party. However I confirmed which ones I wanted to send out from a bulk lot on 1/4 and they received back in house and sent me graded pics on 1/26. Pretty happy with grades and turn around. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
New submission: 23 cards, 5-10 day processing timeframe
Logged in as received by SGC: 2/20/24 |
Sounds like things are a bit slow right now. My small order was marked as received on 2/6 and has remained Received for two weeks now. Hopefully some movement soon....
|
I saw them at the Burbank show in Ontario, CA this weekend as I was dropping off a submission. They said they were backed up (I have a few submissions that just got graded), but they are catching back up as there was a surge in January.

Turn around times
I submitted 26 cards 02-02-74 graded 02-20-24, now in post grade--was advised they were slowed down by some kind of Bowman card special--they were quick to respond to by email inquiry, wish they had a live phone number-
|
Sent in 70 cards. Hopefully that backlog is cleared. 1 is oversized, so perhaps that might slow things down...

My PSA order, 14 cards, is well over the 65 days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sounds like they've slowed down. My small 2 card order was received 2/13. I kind of thought it might hit post-grading Friday, but it didn't.
|
It does seem likely are backed-up but then why not give Transparency? We are a little backed up, instead of 5-10 days like your website says it will likely be more like 10-20 days til your order is graded?

Just found out it was because my Deckle edge proofs threw them a little and slowed things down. That's fair.

I'm sitting on business day 13 for a 4 card order.. no bueno!

Sounds like SGC caught a little case of senioritis when it was clear they were being bought out.

Guess I'm looking at Monday now. That'd be business day #20 with no movement at all.
On my last entry I could see they had started processing/researching items, which made the wait seem more manageable. On this one, card names haven't been populated yet on like 90% of the order. |
As long as they can be back in time.. to get to psa before they raise their prices, I'm good

They have not met the 5-10 days on my last two submissions one of which was before the PSA purchase. My prior order wrapped around Christmas and took a month. My current order has been in for 10 days. I expect another week or two. Im sure the plan is to catch up so they are not changing the lead times officially. Brent replies quickly with an apology that they are running behind. I do agree it would be reasonable to post on their site we are not at 5-10 working days and give a realistic, honest lead time. They are already acting like PSA. I have 100's of ungraded S74 silks. I wonder what PSA will do about those. Will they grade them or put a PSA approved sticker on the holder ? I think I will ask my contact at PSA. If he answers anything relevant I will post it....Unlikely he will have much to say other than we are looking into it
