Took a chance on it being authentic. I almost never buy raw.
Any quick thoughts from anyone? |
Came this morning

Love the card, but loved the note that came with it even more.

Technically late April, but I am just getting around to posting scans instead of the terrible cellphone pics I had posted...

Hell of a start already. That note is priceless; you must keep it with the card (provenance).
These were bought in April, but should arrive this month/any day, so they'll be May pickups for purposes of this thread |

Ryan, 👍....
This Murphy (BL460) and a few others came from net54 member Chris, (usernamealreadytaken) awesome guy to deal with, thank you. I already own the Murphy (Drum), so I guess I’m going to complete the back run. |
AWESOME Chuck!! That BL 460 is a beast. You beat me, and Jamie, and Mike and many others to that card and I am glad it was you who drew first. Enjoy that sucker (and now I know why your were selling so many nice cards on ebay ;))

Nice card Steve. Sharp!

Thanks!
|
I knew it was Chuck who got the BL 460...glad you did.
|
that’s a great bl460 murphy. brings to mind one i used to own except it was missing a corner. ugly card but at least it had rarity going for it. your’s is a beauty
|
Agreed with everyone else, great BL 460 - congrats. Happy to pick these two up as types for postcard collection. No idea if there is supposed to be any premium on them but love the overprint on the Rose Company.

Let us know how the back run progresses. :) |
After I bought the Konetchy BL 460 in REA, I've since acquired 6 other backs of that pose...it's quite addicting.

Waiting for me when I got home from vacation.
I rarely get pre-war stuff, so I was very excited to put this one in the Maine collection. I think you can tell by the photo background where I got it!!! |
Thank you guys for the kind words, much appreciated. I enjoy seeing everyone’s new pick ups and feeling the excitement in their writings/postings. For me, the search is on for my next card, lol.

Game in Action rppc.I think the action shot is neat.
according to the description. . "This is an original, vintage photo postcard showing the famous Cuban HOF and negro league's Star, BASILIO "EL BRUJO" ROSELL, scoring, with catcher ANGEL FLEITAS ready to tag, while playing for the "Mexico BBC & Monterrey BBC, respectively, during the 1945 season in Mexico City. I'm all over the place. (The latter two are signed, but I haven't taken a picture of the Shepard Fairey/Chuck D print yet so this is just the generic image as it looked pre-signatures.)
|
This puts me at a completely graded set minus the Big 4. I had finished it sans the Demmitt and O'Hara years ago (lucky for me) and recently added the Demmitt via auction and this O'Hara from B/S/T. I'm leaving the door open on a Magie but after that it's Powerball or bust.

Thanks Sean. I felt the same way and that's what led me to pulling the trigger. Image clarity is really sharp.

Not to mention the batter batting crosshanded

Wow, great eye, Jay. That's not an easy detail to catch.

Not a big deal at all, but sometimes you look forever for a card, and then one morning it just pops up on a saved ebay search.

That Hornsby looks nice in the binder page.
Here's a Gillespie batting. I need to check, I think I only need a RHHH to finish the run. It has taken me longer to do this player run than I thought it would. Ten years on... |
Nice job! I’m embarrassed to admit that it knew what RHHH was.

Thanks, Jay. I figured the OJ collectors would know "right hand head high". I say "right hand held high" for the Connie Mack, which is one of my favorite cards.

Thanks to Brian for helping me add to my Matty back run. Still on the hunt for an EPDG, Cycle or Polar Bear if anybody has a 3/4 grade.

Recent LOTG pickups: So excited to acquire something period of HOFer Henry Chadwick! My HOF career-contemporary number now stands at 316/329. Also, picked up the Bill Dahlen because 1) Speculation of his eventual induction, and 2) My collection REALLY needed a Turkey Red - my very first. :-)

Cool pick up Leon.
May seems to be a Wagner month. Thanks to Tim, Bob, and Dan, each of which is a board member, for these cards. I am especially over-the-moon about the Newsboy. |
That Baltimore Newsboy is a neat card. Congratulations Ryan.

I took a Chance on this card at Goldin tonight. Admittedly, likely over-graded but very tough combo. |
