Snapshots...Lets See Them!
To me, candid fan snapshots photos are such a cool unique piece of baseball history. Truly special.
I'll start by showing you a few of my favorite snapshot photos from my collection. Roy McMillan, back row, right.
|
Bingo! That's Roy and this photo taken in 1951 came from his estate. The fella that indeed looks like Joepa is Grady Hatton. Can anyone guess who the other two guys are? Hint: the second from left wasn't a player but was affiliated with the Reds at the time.
|
Far left looks like Joe Adcock.
|
Yep! You guys are pretty good. That just leaves the second guy from left. Who happens to be in the HOF.

Great thread & I love snapshots!!
Here are a few of my favorite snappers. They are: Nolan Ryan baby faced 1968 rookie photo outside Shea Stadium (personal favorite) Bob Feller warming up prior to appearing in the inaugural Cooperstown HOF game in 1939 Carl Hubbell (Aka "The Meal Ticket") warming up at Wrigley Field circa 1930's. NOTE: The release point of his hand and arm after uncorking his famous All-World screwball is just amazing to look at. Is it any wonder that this pitch permanently disfigured his left arm? Walter Johnson as the manager of the Newark Bears circa 1928 Johnny Vander Meer in September 28, 1937 at Crosley Field |

Hi all. Been a while for me as taking a bit of time off collecting as intensely as before. Not out of it, just slowed a bit. Hope everyone is doing well.
I figured I would share a few snappers of Lou with you all. https://live.staticflickr.com/7486/1...6125a8d1_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/1881/4...d3f5b5b1_o.jpg 1927 Barnstorming with Ruth https://live.staticflickr.com/4348/3...a9c4c5d1_o.jpg 1927 Yankees Team https://live.staticflickr.com/8647/1...a6eb2497_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/7538/1...4c49bd94_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/8640/1...073391a7_o.jpg Speaker signed https://live.staticflickr.com/4382/3...605136f2_o.jpg Cira 1940's NY Giants team including Ott https://live.staticflickr.com/8789/1...1f006a21_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/7710/1...e00808f9_o.jpg |

Twenty years ago my daughter's teacher found out I was a collector of sports "stuff" as she put it and wanted to show me snow snaps that were in her family forever. I tried to buy them from her be she said she could not bear to get rid of them but was kind enough to run me off some photocopies of them for me to keep. The quality of the photocopies are not the best but the original snaps were in awesome condition. I need to find that teacher and see if she wants to sell now.

You have a baby faced Mike McCormick there in a New York Giants jersey. He was a late season call up in 1956. With Don Larsen (1956 WS pefect game) included, too, I imagine it was either an after-season shot from 1956 or possibly from some time in 1957. Billy Pierce was pitcher of the year for both of those seasons, and Kell was an Oriole in 1956 and 1957. Harry Simpson was moved to the Yanks during the '57 season. Perhaps with Maz (called up in mid 1956), Newk (1956 MVP and Cy Young Award winner) and the others, there is some nugget of truth that will give an exact year? If that's Herb Score next to the Mick (Triple Crown in 1956), he was ROY in 1955 and led the league in strikeouts for both the 1955 and 1956 seasons, and was an all star during both of those campaigns.
|
It may also have correlation with the Broadway show Damn Yankees which ran from May of 1955 to May of 1957. Note the action happening with the person in the Washington Senators uniform. That was the team in Damn Yankees.
Edit: Come to think of it, the guy in the Senators uniform looks an awful lot like Tab Hunter, who starred in the 1958 movie version of Damn Yankees... |

Not really snapshots, but please check out my photography auction! Tons of wire photos which may not be very exciting, but a number of type 1's as well. And nothing above a $10 start price! |

Thanks Hank. They appear to be mostly from mid to late 1940’s. There are several others photos in the group. I believe they came from player Earl Taborn.
