New Acquisitions Thread
Seems like these threads die each month after a few posts, so why not a thread that is not time limited?

pete great card wow:)
|
@ Exhibitman -- Good idea on the general thread. And I love the Lemon et al. cards!
|
the '51 parkie howe is great! been trying to find a low grade one for signing but they're still too expensive.
the roy below is ready to be cracked out for signing: http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps28b6a979.jpg got some great ttm's and a durant. lindros from canada and forsberg all the way from sweden. http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps95109b7f.jpg |
no the opc, but still one of the iconic hockey rookie cards in the 80's.

^^^ Awesome sig on that Stevie Y!
This one still has to make it through the mail to me, but I couldn't wait to share a scan with the fellow puckheads :D . The market must be down on hockey cards in general, because I was amazed at how low this went today (no complaints, just surprised considering where my snipe was set). These don't come up for auction very often... http://photos.imageevent.com/ltsgall...s%20Plante.jpg |

Great Plante Chuck! Here's the Mahovlich RC I picked up in the latest Goodwin auction.

Mr Hockey
Two of my favorites! I picked up the Howe from Pete and the Gretzky from Ebay, not an OPC, but the Howe set me back some.

Dryden is a difficult signature to obtain. Got this one via a friend who does charity work with his wife. The Orr is unique--I have never seen another. He used to own a small chain of pizza parlours in southern Ontario, and this was a limited giveaway, I think.

it's nice to see some hockey cards. it's a dying sport in the states but at least the fanbase is loyal. i'm not sure if translates to collecting tho. i've been a fan since the early 90's so that's the only reason why i collect.
|
Quote:
I still collect hockey. Mainly prewar type cards, HOF rookies, and '79's. but I won't touch modern stuff. I don't even know any of the players anymore What do you collect? |
i do the prewar baseball, but getting into signed rookies of all 4 sports. i love the mid 80's hockey rookie cards tho...lemieux/yzerman/roy etc. they were big stars by the time i got into hockey.
picked up 3 more, only sad(?) thing is i seem to be picking up mostly the topps cards, not opc. http://www.bbcexchange.com/ebay/ebay...13%20(216).jpghttp://www.bbcexchange.com/ebay/ebay...13%20(230).jpg http://www.bbcexchange.com/ebay/ebay...13%20(168).jpg |

Very happy to have picked up these two Howe's. The picture is a wire photo which was used for the 63 Parkie on the right. The colors on the Parkhurst are much more vivid in person!

Gents,
I proudly share with you what is likely my most amazing hockey pickup ever...this is a one-of-a-kind (AFAIK) 1907-08 Alfred G. Pittaway Studios Cabinet of Tommy Phillips - one of the greatest players of early hockey, and an inaugural member of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945. The image quality is stunning, with Phillips in his Ottawa team sweater...and there are no cards of Phillips: |
It feels odd saying this about a man's photo, but that is gorgeous!

LOL - thanks Chuck...I think I know what you mean! Cheers, Blair |

I won the Beliveau on ebay thinking it was a regular sized postcard, it's actually oversized and measures 8-1/4" wide x 6" high.

|
i'm very happy to have these 2 cards in my collection, two of the more popular cards when i was growing up. also knocked off a few more OPC signed rookies. these days i'm genuinely more excited picking up a signed forsberg than a t206 hof'er.

Fantastic pick-up for me this month! This is an original 1930 portrait photo of Hockey HOFer Dick Irvin with a vintage fountain pen signature dated December 7, 1930. Irvin had just finished up his HOF playing career, and in 1930 was in his first season of what became a legendary NHL coaching career:

This is my companion piece to the photo above - a high-grade example of Dick Irvin's tough rookie card (this was acquired a few months back):

1915 Portland Hippodrome
2 Attachment(s)
This 1915 Portland Hippodrome photo advertises the home opener of the 1915-1916 Pacific Coast Hockey Association season. The home team won 2-1 over Vancouver. Portland's skaters included Hall of Famers Moose Johnson and Tommy Dunderdale. Also shown for reference is one I posted before, the 1914-1915 Portland Rosebuds (aka Portland Uncle Sams) team; it includes a similar shot of the Hippodrome. As best I can tell the players in the larger images on the postcard are (top row) Mike Mitchell, Eddie Oatman, coach Pete Muldoon, hockey Hall of Famer Moose Johnson, and Ran McDonald, and (bottom row) Charlie Tobin, Art Throop, Smokey Harris, and unknown. In 1916, the Rosebuds were the first U.S. squad to play for the Stanley Cup (they lost to the Montreal Canadiens). For more, visit http://www.sportingoregon.com/ , and please contact me if you have early Portland hockey memorabilia. Thanks.

The SGC 84 I've had for a few years, but moved it from PSA to SGC. The SGC 88 I picked up raw on eBay. Bad pics, (0) feedback seller, but I took a chance on the Buy It Now. Worked out. :)

Here are a few recent hockey pick-ups:
• 1960 letter to Ted "Teeder" Kennedy signed by Clarence Campbell (elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966) • Jean Beliveau Molson postcard from the 1960's. This one is cool because it is signed twice and includes a personal note written by Beliveau himself, explaining where he was when this photo was taken • A 1967 General Mills Bobby Orr with a sweet signature! |
