I had a 1959 One Cent pack for a while but I never opened it. I did discover though that if you held it up to a bright enough light you could see through the wrapper. There was Ray Narleski staring at me through some wax. I left him right where he was.

About 10 years ago my father found 6 unopened 1972 cello packs in the basement. He used to get the Sunday papers and bring me back cards. he must have bought these and forgot. There were a large number of really nice cards but no major hits like a Fisk rookie. I still have them all.

I'm guessing that the significance of 52T Mantle #311 is that Mantle's batting average for the 1952 season coincidentally ended up at .311

Searching the cabinet for something to eat in early 80's, found a box of 1962 Junkett Jello with a coin. Opened it and got Brooks Robinson. My stepmom never threw anything out.

My brother pulled a Blanda rookie out of a 1954 Bowman pack in the early 90's

311 = my birthday, one of my favorite bands, and, apparently is a code for the Ku Klux Klan (KKK = 3x the 11th letter in the alphabet). I only learned about the KKK connection after someone pointed this out to me when I was playing on Pokerstars back in the day with my userid of h2oya311 . My guess is that none of these are the significance that Ted speaks of with respect to #311 of the '52 Topps set.

Pulled an Eddie Murray re out of a 78 Opc pack a few years back

Few years back pulled a Rickey Henderson RC out of a 1980 Topps pack.

Mantle hit .311 as the other gentlemen mentioned in 52.. Have a few 51 Red Backs I keep mulling over opening one but can't see through the wrapper, except one you can see the red back so I am guessing players are folded in...

Also have a 55 Topps rack with a Mays on the back and wonder whether there is a Clemente hiding in there too... much tougher decision...

Have done some 75's and remember doing well...

Certainly remember the 85 Gooden rookie was always in the rack packs with the Joe Altabelli All Star card on the front...Also had the McGuire tracked too but forget who the All-Star card was the tip-off..

In 1990 I bought one pack of 1984 Topps and got a Don Mattingly Rookie. I was so pumped. My buddy bought a 1980 Topps rack pack and pulled a Rickey Henderson rookie. We were 12. It was so fun! We should have kept going as the guy we bought from had older stuff as well

In the mid 1970s, I opened an entire box of 1957 Topps football. I paid $15 for it. It was filled with cello packs, along with rookies of Unitas, Starr and Hornung. I probably could buy a house today with the proceeds from selling it — if I hadn't opened it. I was about 14. About the same time, I also opened a pack of 1951 Bowman football and got Buddy Young and a stick of gum that turned to powder in my hand ...

In the early 1980's I opened several older packs.
1968 wax - pulled a Willie Mays
1959 cello - all commons
1962 wax - all commons
1971 rack - Munson, Jackson
1973 vending high number box - 3 full runs including 3 Schmidts plus extras
1975 rack - Ryan HL, Jackson
1954 Bowman Football wax - Creekmur (HOFer)
1964 Phila Football Cello - Horning, Warfield
1972 Basketball half box - 2 Ervings, Chamberlain, 2 Jabbars, and a lot of other stars.

It was a lot of fun back then when older packs were affordable.

The oldest one for me would be the first pack I ever bought. 1969. Got a Reggie Jackson. Of course, it was new at the time.

Oldest by age when I opened it would probably be the 1991 Topps I opened this summer.

Whats the oldest unopened pack you ever opened and any luck?
 

I started collecting in the late 80s and as you all know nothing of any value. Had a lot of fun opening wax with my younger brother. We would buy hobby boxes at kMart....well Mom would buy them for us. Always excited when she would get us an Upper Deck box.

1980 Topps Ricky Henderson RC - I was only 9 years old and already hooked by the hobby - by 14 I was selling at shows! Crazy how the years just fly

1966 Batman Black Bats; followed by Red and Blue.

First sports card packs were 1967-68 Topps Hockey.

First baseball card packs were 1968 OPC baseball.

Don't remember who I got, as it was in the 60's. However, I do recall little to no premium on stars, as our objectives were to complete sets, something I still prefer to do today.

A few years ago I bought a pack of 1982 Topps from a supermarket vending machine and pulled a Ripken "Future Stars" rookie. Don't remember what I paid for the pack but it wasn't any more than a dollar.
