Neal - Very nice Belli ! Your making a strong bid for the top spot on that Griffey Registered set!
Always great to see a collector follow their passion for a player.
Solid choice, premier HOF'er!

As someone, maybe David R., cautioned in another thread, careful with the dual signed ones, some of the Mantles may be fake.

I understand the card, I just think it is so ugly. I wish it had been done better. I've debated picking one up, but cant pull the trigger

Yah, it's cartoonish.

ronniehatesjazz 08-19-2018 01:32 PM

The card does look cartoonish but it has the nicest signatures of their respective generations. The mick had a lot of competition as there were a lot of nice signatures during his time (teddy ballgame comes to my mind). For Griffey, it’s not even close. His contemporaries almost all had repulsive signatures. Can you imagine seeing the Big Hurt’s chickenscratch next to Mantle’s gorgeous penmanship? Because of the signatures I think it’s one of the most iconic cards of the 90’s.

Who started the chickenscratch thing anyhow? And yes Ted signed beautifully.

I just picked up a PSA10 Griffey UD 2nd year error card with no copyright on the back. I never knew this card existed till recent, but had to own it. It has a low pop of only 17. Here is a link if you guys arent familiar with it. This card is not mine...just a random one on eBay.

Love the 90 UD! I never knew that existed until recently either.

Peter Max has long been a favorite artist, so when I saw the 1997 Topps Gallery cards I wanted one of the signed cards. They are pretty outrageous, though, so i figured to get one of the crappier players (Albert Belle, anyone?), but I got really lucky on this auction:

https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...%20Griffey.jpg

Fun factoid: Max signed the cards before the coating was applied.

swarmee 11-01-2018 07:15 PM

Well, he signed the numbered ones before the gloss was applied. There are a lot of those signed after the fact.

Exhibitman 11-02-2018 10:03 AM

%&^%%! You're right! I guess this one goes back.

swarmee 11-02-2018 11:26 AM

Why would you return it? Was it advertised wrong?

They had Griffey finest in display case for $25. I asked the owner about it and he told me it was called a refractor and they were extremely rare. I bit and bought it. So for about 15 years or so I thought I had this super cool refractor card but turned out it was just regular one.

It's possible the owner was misinformed even though he was shady as hell sometimes, but that was last time I got to go there.

1998 Pinnacle Epix

A final selection of 24 Epix cards was slated for inclusion in 1998 Pinnacle Certified, but the manufacturer went bankrupt before that product shipped. However, a full set of Epix cards from the Pinnacle Certified set emerged on the secondary market nearly 20 years after Pinnacle's bankruptcy.

Cards marked with a "C" were scheduled for insertion into packs of 1998 Pinnacle Certified, but were never officially released. However, in October 2017, a full set of Epix cards intended to be released in 1998 Pinnacle Certified emerged on the secondary market, with some players having multiple copies surface.

Inside View
This insert set was, for reasons that still remain unclear, withdrawn from production. However, again for reasons unclear, some Inside Views made their way into packs.

Originally, each card was to have been serial-numbered to 1000 copies with a Black parallel numbered to 50. The cards that made their way into packs are NOT serial-numbered.

It appears that anywhere from five to 25 copies of each card made their way into packs. A parallel refractor-like, "rainbow" version of these cards exist, however the print run is unknown.
