Card I can't find
I am looking for a 1993 Upper Deck Iooss WI22 George Brett autographed
There were supposed to be 5,000 issued by Upper Deck but I can seem to find one. |
The toughest cards I'm looking for I don't even think exist.
Their from the 1978 Wiffle Ball set..NOT the set of individual die-cut cards that were inserted in boxes. These are the ones that were printed on the boxes themselves. I've been collecting these since the day they came out. The boxes say there are 88 players in the set, but to date I can only identify 82 of them. The worst part is that most of the cards came five to a box, meaning it isn't a case of just one box missing since there are six unaccounted for. There were some that were issued two on a bat/ball sleeve but the likelihood of three of those being unidentified seems unlikely as well. I beginning to think they were never produced, unless I see evidence otherwise. |
Paired down my list a bit from January 2013:
I have been looking for the following for years. Any help? Claudell Washington 1977 Rangers Team Issue - 21 1985 Braves TBS America's Team - 4 Dane Iorg 1984 Royals Postcards - 15 Don Robinson 1990 Giants Smokey - 17 1992 Medford Phillies Garth Iorg 1979 Syracuse Chiefs Team Issue - 9 1980 Syracuse Chiefs Team Issue - 11 Jesse Orosco 1985 Mets Colla Postcards - 21 1987 Mets Colla Postcards - 19 1990 Indians Team Issue - 32 Johnny Grubb 1973 Linnett Portraits - 155 Ken Phelps 1986 Mariners Pacific Northwest Bell - 10 Luis Salazar 1989 Padres Coke - 15 Mike Greenwood 1987 Pocatello Giants The Bon - 9 Mike Morgan 2000 Pacific Platinum Blue - 427 Otis Nixon 1998 Ultra Platinum Medallion - 356 1999 Braves Atlanta Journal-Constitution Jumbos - 11 U.L. I have a few cards that I've been looking for for a very long time:
1994 Fleer Ultra had two insert sets specific to retail boxes that were one per series. These are hard pulls at one per box. I need the RBI Kings Matt Williams...I've actually never seen one up on ebay. I also need the Andres Gallaraga On Base leaders. One came up on ebay for the first time in a few years. I put a snipe over $10 on it which I thought was an insane price, but I wanted the card and I figured its worth $10 to cross it off my list for so long. The one initial bid had a max bid higher than that. Go figure  The other really tough ones...and I'm not sure that they were even made...The company Signature Rookies had some really nice insert sets of HOF's and sports heroes of various sports...in particular their Gold Standard set, and the Tetrad Titans insert sets. For those that don't know, SR went down in flames sometime in 1996-1997 because the CEO Tim Flatt was into some shady business practices. However, I do believe most, if not all, of their autos were authentic. Lots have found their way into TPG slabs as authentic. I do know that one of the shady business practices is that the owner or someone close to him absconded with autos that were supposed to be redemptions from packs. So I assembled the Tetrad Titan from 1994 without too much difficulty, and for not much money. Includes autos of Bruce Jenner, Larry Holmes, Bobby Hull, Bobby Allison, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas and some other olympians. Also an infamous OJ Simpson auto which I do, and will not, ever own. The 1995 one is only a 5 card set. 3 were easy and inexpensive for what they are...Dennis Rodman, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Katarina Witt. The last two...well I don't remember ever seeing them on ebay... Bob Griese Roberto Duran I'd love to own these(if they actually exist). The 1994 ones are nicer and feature easier to read autos. FWIW, there was a near impossible set of cards to get...the Kromax product had an insert set of 5 autos of all star NBA players..Dominique Wilkins and Tim Hardaway had productions of around 1000. Those pop up on ebay every now and then. However the Scottie Pippen I believe is numbered out of about 30, and the Charles Barkely and Patrick Ewing are numbered out of 5. Those came up a year or two ago on ebay and I think went in the $350-400 range. |

The 8x10s were plentiful and cheap for a while, but I don't see them anymore. Most weren't numbered but I think they weren't common. The retail only set was pretty tough too. It looked like a boxed set, but wasn't and had its own inserts. There was a TV shopping version of the same set that had what I think were exclusive signature cards. There's a lot of their stuff that's not cataloged, and a lot of their sets from the very end that just didn't seem to get totally released. One of the last hockey sets I think was only about 60% signed. I also think some of their less common stuff was held internally as a golden parachute of sorts. There's a whole class of stuff that I don't ever recall seeing when it was current that showed up a couple years after they closed. Steve B |

I am also on the BO forum and bumped an old thread saying I was looking for one and with in 5 min. I got a response from a fellow member saying they just looked and had one. When I asked what they wanted for it the reply was "just the address to send it to". I hope the rest of you looking for a tough card get yours also. I love it when I get that card that makes me feel like a little kid again.:D |

I'm hunting 2 modern cards for my Chris Sabo Collection
1995 Upper Deck Electric Diamond GOLD #433 and 1995 Upper Deck Special Edition GOLD #152 obviously both are low end and probably stashed in a 5000 ct monster box somewhere. Believe these came 1 or 2 per box from what I have been able to determine, but they're just not easy to come across. Not many people have the stack of cards 20 years old to look thru. So similar to others, they're cheaper cards but are some of my white whales to complete my Chris Sabo super collection or regularly issued cards! |
Quote:
One thing that concerns me is no picture for any of the cards. For that issue its a concern, not because of condition(its unrealistic that you'll find anything above NrMt because of border chipping out of the pack), but because sellers so often confuse years. In 1994, it was a difficult pull(I believe 1 rbi king per retail box). In 1995, the RBI King insert set was very common...something like 1:6 packs. Sellers mistitle things all the time and without a pic its impossible to veryify. |

2003 Donruss Team Heroes Beckett Sample GOLD Steve Garvey.
If I remember correctly, these sample cards were issued one per Beckett monthly, glued with that rubbery, semi sticky stuff that was meant to allow for no damage and peel right off, to a subscription card. I remember getting a run of several magazines that had these cards in them at the time and they we're also hitting ebay pretty heavy. This is one that could easily exist but be tucked away in full magazines, tossed by uninterested collectors or perhaps it was never actually made. I have the silver one and the gold shows up on checklists, but i have not seen one offered. i know the gold versions were supposedly made in a fraction of the quantity of silver versions (15% according to an online source), but you'd think someone, somewhere would have one for sale or at least share a photo or mention of it, but no dice. Of course, how many silvers were made to begin with? |
Edit to show the cards I have tracked down. Still looking for the others.

The toughest modern cards you're still looking for...
I have been looking for this card since I started collecting Hideo Nomo back in 1995.
1995 Upper Deck Electric Diamond Gold #226 I have every minor, rookie, 2nd year, and even Japanese cards but still can't find this one. I haven't even ever seen one on eBay, although I have not checked for one there in a while. |

I'm a "supercollector" of Josh Fogg and the majority of what I'm misssing are 1/1s or printing plates.
However, the other ones that have eluded me for over 12 years are the 2003 Donruss/Leaf Beckett Samples. They were supposed to have been produced and released in the monthly BSCM and marked with the word SAMPLE on the back. There were silver and gold versions and I believe the gold versions were something like 10x harder to get than the silver. Either way, I've never seen any of the Josh Fogg ones. I even emailed Chris Olds a couple years ago and he said they probably weren't even made and that the checklist for the sample sets is basically a copy of the original sets and not necessarily a list of the cards that were actually made. |

1990 aqueous lance parrish
I have just about everything for my lance PC that's not a 1/1 except the one that has been evading me for years - 1990 donruss aqueous.
I had to take several years off due to being on disability and in cancer recovery and sold most of my money cards. ( thank god for my collection as it kept my family under a roof) however no lance ever left my home. Unfortunately the only one I have ever seen came up during that time I could not touch it. If anyone has a lead on that aqueous it would be the final key needed. :D Now that I have my health and my life back I would love to have that baby. 1993 Pacific Nolan Ryan Ghostwriting cards
Thanks for sharing all those modern toughies. I knew about quite a few of them, but was unaware of some of the more recent ones. I am amazed at the number of tough modern cards out there.
For me, the toughies that I’m looking for are the 1993 Pacific Nolan Ryan Ghostwriting cards. There are 110 different cards in total numbering from 111-220. Each card has 1 of 10 possible messages on the back that glows in the dark. The messages are all geared towards keeping kids off drugs and alcohol and staying in school. Below is a list of the 10 different messages listed alphabetically. 1. BE SMART. DON'T START DRUGS OR ALCHOHOL 2. D.A.R.E. TO KEEP KIDS OFF DRUGS 3. DRUGS RUIN DREAMS 4. IN SPORTS DRUGS CAN CAUSE YOU TO MAKE AN ERROR 5. JUST SAY NO 6. SAY NO TO DRUGS 7. STAY IN SCHOOL 8. TO BE A WINNER YOU HAVE TO BE DRUG FREE 9. TO GET THE BEST GRADES, YOU HAVE TO STUDY 10. WINNERS DON'T USE DRUGS Here is a photo of the front and back of card # 111 with the third photo taken in the dark showing the message, ”D.A.R.E. TO KEEP KIDS OFF DRUGS” on the back. http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/...psomxlswd5.jpg If anyone has one of these please let me know. Thanks, Donato |

Were they in packs, or distributed some other way? I can see someone making a public relations issue like some of the police sets by stamping a whole bunch of an existing set. Steve B |
1993 Pacific Nolan Ryan "Ghostwriting" cards
Hi Steve,
Yes, the messages are specific to the card number. Card #111 will always have "D.A.R.E. TO KEEP KIDS OFF DRUGS". The cards were issued in foil packs. I have yet to pull one myself in the 1/2 dozen or so boxes that I've opened, but I know someone who has pulled a couple from these boxes. (see box pictured below) I read somewhere many years ago that according to Mike Cramer, president of Pacific Cards, that there were only 200 of each message printed. That means there would be about 2,000 cards in total numbered from 110 through 220. He also said that not all of them made it into production because the thicker cards kept jamming up the machines, so some were pulled from production. So, I don't think anyone really knows how many are out there. To date, PSA has graded about 160 "Ghostwriting" cards in total of which 70 are unique card numbers out of the possible 110. That means there are still 40 card numbers of the 110 that have yet to have an example graded by PSA. The card numbers that have been graded are all included in the Nolan Ryan Master set on the PSA Registry. I've only got 13 out of the 70 graded so far, so I have a looooooooong way to go. If anyone has any other info or leads to these cards I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Donato http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=21008 |

2005 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Dual Materials Signature Patch Aaron Rowand/Scott Podsednik. There are only 5 of these so I assume I'll never see one but I'll put it out there in just case. Not baseball, but there was a phone card issued for one of the games in 1996 or 1997 of Michael Payton and Eric Kresser who both quarterbacked the Marshall University Thundering Herd to DIAA National Championships. There are a handful of weird university issues that are really hard to find unless you were at the games. They were usually in very small qualities, distributed only the the first 500 or 1000 in attendance. Of those, many did not have interest in the product. I've only seen one phone card for sale (missed it) on eBay in 20 years of looking.
