Hey, that back and forth was pretty cool...I've often wondered who was on the other end of that laptop when I get someone or I get had...haha...sometimes it would be fun to have a beer with that person to reminisce..:p

Great cards all...loves these threads...

I'll add a couple...the 69 is an upgrade for my primary set (I am actually doing a 3rd 69 set, my favorite year) and the 65 came with it...nice two-fer outside of the upper wrinkle

Agreed.. I too have wondered many times who was on the other end when I have won or lost. For me it's usually win some lose most. :)

BTW - that's a nice pair of Brooks you have there.

jason.1969 07-16-2016 11:07 AM

From the B/S/T. I already have the matching Williams and a mini-display in mind.

I would love to pick up a Joe DiMaggio. Hope it's ok to ask, but what does one cost in less than perfect condition?

My grandmother's sister was married to one of the DiMaggio boys who didn't play ball, and my Dad's family and the DiMaggio came from the same town, Isolla delle Faminne. My grandfather and Joe's father were all fishermen.

jason.1969 07-16-2016 12:02 PM

The one above cost me $40. Note that the Exhibits issues are postcard size and not viewed in the same league as for instance 41 Play Ball!

My "main" Joe D is a 1939 PB that cost me about $400.

That's awesome to be a relative of Joe D! Just remembered we had a thread here on the most affordable DiMaggio cards...

And following the thread's suggestion of a Berk Ross, here is Joe D's last card (1952) in decent shape for only $100. (N54 gents with keener eyes can advise if they believe it is authentic...I vote Yes.)

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/391502597884

I love Exhibits and don't own any playing era Joe DiMaggio cards yet, so I'm drooling over that one!

KCRfan1 07-16-2016 08:32 PM

Jason, give us a picture of the display when you have it set up!!!

Will do. But don't set the expectations TOO high! Half the N54 displays I've seen belong in the HOF. Mine will just be a slight upgrade to my office. [emoji1]

Finding an Ashburn was actually a challenge .... now I may want to start a nice PSA midgrade set

Neal, I love the Red Heart series. The set tends to fly under the radar at times, and of course for me and timing, I'm about 5 years too late as nice examples are a bit pricey. Story of my life and cards.......

Canofcorn 07-17-2016 07:56 AM

Very nice Neal! A beauty

jason.1969 07-17-2016 08:01 AM

The red really held its color. Terrific card!

Neal 07-17-2016 08:20 AM

Thanks fellas - I once attempted this set, and had them all in SGC 84 to 88. The red series (especially Ashburn and Musial) were tough to find at my price point and generally did not have the centering I wanted.

The issue has some heavy stock, so mid grade seems to present much better than other issues. Owning a Mantle already, I may try this for the second time. Beautiful, affordable, and most importantly to me, a nice small set.

jason.1969 07-17-2016 08:25 AM

If I remember right, a N54 member made an incredible framed display of the entire set. Of the minor releases of the era, I just love this one and Dan Dee. I don't have any of either but maybe someday...

That Ashburn is beautiful. I added these two Mid grade rookies to my collection this month.

DBesse27 07-17-2016 09:23 AM

I concur that the red hearts are a great set, and the red really pops on your ashburn!

will have to check past threads - would love to see that!

1954 had some outstanding regional issues - Dan Dee, Red Heart, Wilson Franks, Spic and Span and Johnston Cookies

DBesse27 07-17-2016 11:28 AM

Oh yeah, Wilson and Johnston were great sets too, good call!

Here is mine I finished last year. Not sure if this is the "incredible display" you're referring to but I do like showing it off. If it is then thank you, if it's not then just keep on scrolling past it.;)

Nice cards, Jason! :)

Canofcorn 07-19-2016 08:48 PM

What if that was the lineup he had to face?!

I think you have every color of the rainbow covered.

The eye appeal on every single one is awesome!

Thanks guys! I don't think any other issue has been more fun to collect for me personally.

I have a distinct story that goes along with each of those cards, which adds to the enjoyment for me -- the Jackie was my first ever purchase on Net54; the Ruth was gotten through another collector's extreme generosity; the DiMaggio through a Widow of a former collector who has now become a family friend; the Williams was a last-second kamikaze bid on eBay, etc etc. Good memories.

Still have the last 2 toughies to go, though -- the Feller and Paige... *gulp*

Also, just realized I forgot to add ol' Tobacco-Chewing Honus to the lineup...

Those are amazing leaf cards Jason, great color. :) I've always wanted to find a nicely centered 48 Leaf Robinson in 3 ish condition.

Awesome collection

July additions to my '74 Topps Red Sox team set. Dewey is one of my 2 favorite players of all time and this is his first solo Topps card. I love it. Link at the bottom of this post for those who want to check out my set.

Latest pick up, I don't usually collect graded stuff but the slab makes a great holder for this.

Robs70sCards 07-21-2016 09:04 PM

Just filling in a few gaps of my 70's cards..well, 1969 actually. Great Roberto Clemente card, the condition is a little funky but the pose is sublime.

http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/...psp6tvx5gl.jpg

I also thought the Pete Rose would make a nice companion to my 1971 Pete Rose. :D Now if I can find a 1970 Pete Rose with a similar rip to complete the trifecta :p
