My collecting funds are limited so anytime I am able to add a pre-war HOFer it is cause for a celebration.

Not vintage photos, but one of the under--appreciated group of players, 1919-25 St Louis Browns outfield of Ken Williams, Baby Doll Jacobson and Jack Tobin. Going to put together some type of display(8x12 photos), not exactly sure what yet

rhettyeakley 08-08-2015 10:30 AM

Some recent pickups (including some from The National), the 29 Gomez and 28 Averill are upgrades...

http://www.starsofthediamond.com/19zeearbuckle.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/15zeecwilliams.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/23zeewaner.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/24zeewaner.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/29zeegomez.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/19zeevance.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/28zeeaverill.jpg

The last one isn't anything special to non-Zeenut guys but it is a very tough card. In the 1927 checklist you will see two versions of the Ralph Shinners card, one with the normal "27" date on front and another with "1927" (which is the only card in the set like that). The "1927" is one that I had never seen before. Happy to get it.

Ok, this is my first T206 EVER and my first effort at beginning my quest at collecting the Polar Bear backs for starters. This might be a shade lower grade than most of the rest I will buy as I go along, but I couldn't pass this up! Can't wait for it to arrive! Thanks, Luke!

"Some paper loss!" That's it? So because of that, your card gets the same grade as one that was run over by a monster truck in a septic tank runoff field. Congratulations to you, owner of the greatest proof I've ever seen of the adage, "Buy the card, not the holder."

Luke 08-08-2015 10:25 PM

I was originally looking for cards, but nothing was coming up for Tobin. His autograph can be had and so can Jacobson, but Williams is pricey. Died in 1959, first 30/30 player gives him popularity and rareness. If I could get one at a reasonable price, then I'd just pick up the other two

Jobu 08-09-2015 09:18 AM

That is a fun one - nice cards both of you! I wish it wasn't so pricey, my dad called me Fatty Arbuckle when I was a baby so it would be fun to get.

Thanks Luke, it may not be a multi K :D:D but I like it.

It should present better in the black slab, so it's being readied for a tomb.
Pretty rare issue, and since its a HOF, it's in my wheelhouse.

Great August pickup thread so far , guys. With the national and some great AH offerings, this thread could be a real stunner this month:eek:

rustywilly 08-09-2015 12:50 PM

Rhett - Great talking with you in Chicago. Love the Fatty.
Brian - Nice pickup on the Heilmann. Its a great card. Congrats!

I know you have one, and I guess a handful others are out there not many.

But the kudos from you and your outstanding collection are greatly appreciated.
Yours is a similar vein...HOFers in as many different sets as possible.
Heck, anything is possible:p

Very happy to pick up these difficult cards that I've been looking for a while. For the 1926 Exhibits, I believe this is finally the correct color tint in the right holder and not mislabeled like many of these are.

I always thought the exhibits with the info in the box were 1925 and without the box were 1926

smtjoy 08-10-2015 08:39 AM

Congrats Gary, that was my consignment and its definitely a 1926.

On the 1925 vs 1926, some 1926 have the box some do not, the main way to tell them apart is the blue tint.

Picked up this nice Mickey LaLonge 1910 Obak (150 Subjects) from David Levin. The added bonus was I didn't have this slogan ad back.

Thanks again David!

Now need just a Hap Hogan (150 Subjects) to complete my "catcher card" run in this subset.

Thanks, Scott, I am very happy to pick these cards up.

Dan, there was a discussion on 1925 vs 1926 Exhibits in these links: Link1 and Link2

Still scouring the auctions and ebay for the remaining color variation E94s but in the mean time I decided to make another run at completing the real monster, the T210 set (less Jackson and Stengel). Picked these off eBay from David B. and filled a few holes.

Pair of, what appear to be, hand cut T206 HOFers. Duffy is more dramatic but Flick has a definite bow cut on the large border side.

I was going to bid on Leon's E222 Shag... It is getting too rich for my blood so I made a few purchases to ease the pain. If I can't afford to work on the Shag collection(I did pick up a great Shag postcard off of the BST)These 3 bring my Red Cobb back run to 4. :)

I picked this up off of the BST. Great card. I really like the slight off register that makes him look like he is looking up.
