picked up a Bing Crosby autograph (ok, just Bing) for my 1960 Pirates project. Bing, of course, was part owner, and now I'm down to John Galbreath (majority owner) which I hope to get next week, Bob Prince (announcer), and a game 7 ticket which I'm hoping to get this weekend.

Wow! That is terrific Mike. I have been doing the same for the 1964 Cardinals and am down to four people. I started on the 1927 Yankees way back in 1978 but have not added one in over 10 years, only half way through the team itself on that one.

mr2686 11-16-2010 12:53 PM

Hi Mike. Yep, the 27 Yankees can be tough. I've got about 10 or so of them and not sure how far I'm going to get. Same way with the 1919 Blacksox, but I am down to 2 for the 1934 Gas House Gang Cardinals.

.This is an extremely rare glass advertising slide that measures about 3 1/4 inches by 4 inches and was projected onto the screen in movie theaters to promote products or upcoming movies, etc. circa 1930

Wow, Mike down to two on the 1934 Gashouse Gang is impressive, funny but I started them about the same time as the 1927 Yankees and have had not worked too hard on it, I had the Dean's and Durocher already.

I am starting a much more modest 1978 Yankees & 1982 Cardinals project along with a color 8X10 postwar Yankee project along with a color 8x10 1960s Packers. You can tell when I grew up.

mr2686 11-17-2010 09:22 AM

Mike, the 77-78 Yankees are also a project I'm planning on working on, but it's kinda on hold as other projects like the 61 yankees need to get finished as well. Check out www.mab-celebrity.com. They are having a show in Jan with 61, 81 and 96 yankee reunions, but the 81 team had a few of the 78 team members on it.

Will do, thanks Mike!

Am very happy to add this tough Roger Maris piece from 1964 still unopened in it's original packaging.

Now, together with the Mantle I picked up last month, I've got bookends of the M&M boys! :)

Lots of great stuff -- Jimmy love the Babe slide and Jeff that Cardinals postcard is terrific.

Here's a couple of things I picked up -- A nice original minor league photo of Don Dysdale, and a salesman's handbill for a great Exhibit-type machine from the Advanced Machine Company.

Thanks Greg. Terrific pick ups for you as well. That's the earliest image of the Big D that I've seen. Also, that handbill is a killer companion piece for your machine! Well done Buddy.

BTW... It looks like you and I both, don't fully understand the whole "downsizing" concept. ;)

I was able to add this neat little clip of original film to my "Pride of the Yankees" collection...

I also picked up this scarce original letter (with terrific content) and envelope from Sid Bernstein, the promoter of the Beatles concert at Shea Stadium in 1965.

According to Beatles Guru Perry Cox, there really can't be more then a handful of these out there...

Finally picked up a 1960 Gm7 World Series ticket. Uneven tear on one side but otherwise in great condition.

Jimmy,
Yikes! I swear I actually wore one of these wigs for Halloween in 1964 or 1965. I went out Trick or Treating dressed up as Paul McCartney complete with left handed guitar. Somewhere I have a picture of me rocking this whole look. Too funny!
Nice pick up!

I would LOVE to see that picture Scott! ;)

And speaking of Halloween and the Beatles, I just won this 1968 "Blue Meanie" Children's Costume (with the rare flasher lite mask) still in it's original packaging...

Which 2 are you missing? It took 15 years, but I finished my 1934 Cardinals last year with a beautiful signed Burke photo of Delancey. I believe it's one of the few know signed Delancey photos. 1919 Black Sox and Reds have been in the works for 16 years. My favorite project is the 1903 World Series which will never be complete, but I've got 21 total including Criger, Freeman and other very tough sigs.

Steve

mr2686 11-27-2010 09:00 AM

Hi Steve! I'm only missing Branch Rickey (which I can find almost anywhere) and Sam Breadon (I've had a couple of chances in the last month but the price was a bit too high). Yep, Delancy is near impossible on a photo of any kind. I have a cut but am happy to have it. The real tough ones for me were Red Worthington and Jim Lindsey though. I should have this project complete sometime early next year after I get the 1960 Pirates framed and matted.
Take care,
Mike

Closing out November with the last of my 1960 Pirates...owner John Galbreath. I now have everyone that put on a uniform for them, owners, announcer, special assistant (George Sisler) and even the BP pitcher (Virgil Trucks). This should all get matted and framed sometime in mid January.
I also picked up 1955 Brooklyn Dodger Pitching Coach Joe Becker.

Never had seen this poster before. Measures about 20 x 26. Could have done without the Duke Snider (?) autograph, but what the heck.

1964 World's Fair

I don't have images of them but going through his old stuff my father recently found (among piles of other things) about 45-50 1964 world's fair hall of sport autographed programs including multiples of Brooks Robinson, Yaz, Allie Reynolds, Mudcat Grant, Bill Russell, Jerry West and Rocky Graziano. He also turned up about about 30 3x5 autographs from the Jets including 3 "Joe Willie Namath" autos and an autographed Jesse Owens postcard. On top of all that he found a shoebox full of world's fair advertising giveaways (pins and the like). Not a bad find for thanksgiving.
