that sign was on eBay. great pick up I love the graphics

ruth-gehrig 06-09-2014 11:28 AM

Thanks guys! Yes it really does exhibit nice graphics. Luckily most of the damage is confined to the bottom right hand border. My camera wasn't allowing me to post bigger or better pictures last night or I would have.

Heavy tar, killer overall use and great eye appeal, a favorite in the Brett collection for me.

Great bat, Ben. Big fan of Brett being from the KC area. But really, was this bat even legal? :)

Phil Rizzuto Wheaties Sign

I've never seen this sign before. It measures about 11 inches by 21 inches. It's single sided and didn't ever have an easel backing. Story is a husband was taking a framed picture out of the frame that his wife had for over 40 years. This was being used as backing inside the frame for some reason. Excellent color as it was protected all these years. Much brighter than my camera is depicting. Anyone seen this one before?

GrayGhost 06-10-2014 11:46 AM

No, but super display

I think I have around 5 of these and none of them have the rubber stamp, I don't think.

I don't think these were distributed with the stamps like that, so maybe an individual did that themselves or perhaps it was a test version and it's really rare? I've seen lots and lots of these and just don't recall seeing the stamped names.

I'm really not sure. Do you have any idea?

Also, these look really nice framed if you haven't done that to yours yet. For a black and white, it has nice eye appeal.

Nate:

The "signatures" are spot on, even though they clearly are stamps. I do not own this copy, have others. I am told it originated from Andy Seminick's collection.

This is even better in person. It's a study that Graig did a larger painting of:

Vintage Cuban Item

Really cool Havana flag measures 17x28 inches. Most likely late 1940's or early 1950's. I think this may be the Havana Reds of the Cuban Winter League.

1989 Don Robinson Game Ready World Series bat. Since Robinson was a pitcher and never had an AB in the series, it was never used. Still, I think each player only received 2 of these.

Love the jersey! Stan Clarke....I had forgotten about him. 3-6, 6.79 era and 36 Ks for his career....maybe that's why? Still light years better than me at ball.

Johnny Vander Meer signed hand painted ball

3 Attachment(s)
Good-guy board member Ken Sulik provide a big assist and had an artist friend of his hand paint a Vander Meer signed Leonard Coleman ball that I acquired recently for this purpose.

The image that I selected for her to paint was from a photo that was taken of the 1st time that Vandy met boyhood idol Babe Ruth. He met the Babe just prior to throwing his second consecutive no-hitter on June 15th, 1938- the first night game at Ebbets Field.

Many thanks to Ken for his help in getting this done.
I think it turned out great! :)

Thanks Ben. It's being assembled, along with the Jackson. I'll post pics when it's done, but will bring both to Cleveland. Also waiting on the Burke Red Sox photos - all three in a single frame.

Scott- awesome Ruth study! i was actually about to pull the trigger on that very study a few months ago, but picked up a few other items instead...it is stunning, congrats.

I plan to get one of his very soon.

Graig's studies are the perfect size to frame with autographs. I have most of the materials for creating these two displays, and looking forward to posting the results. I'll probably have them both completed tomorrow evening.

Added two items in the past couple weeks that were previously unknown to me.

First a 1957 Wichita Braves (Milwaukee Braves AAA farm club) American Association championship ring.

Next a 1909 Wichita RPPC. Been looking for a 1909 team postcard for several years. No big names and about 4 players made it to the majors. Features Ad Brennan, lower right, seated.

Just bought this off Ebay. Early 1960's kids shirt with Koufax, Clemente, Mays, Spahn and Groat. I am thinking of framing it either with baseball cards of each player from that era or with cut autographs.

Publication showing Callahan HOF cards

4 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys:

I always like oddball stuff. Picked up this unusal publication that shows Callahan HOF cards artwork on the front and back covers. Some are somewhat cropped from the artwork on the cards. Wonder if they had "permission" to use the "cards"?

Inside has pages w/photos dedicated to Ruth, Cobb, Gehrig, Joe D., mentions and has photos of future HOFer's Musial, Mantle, Aaron, Williams, Mays, and J. Robinson.

Also shows The All Time All Star team, 58 All Star team, 58 World Series box scores, Team photos of the 58 Yanks and Braves, and photos of some of the 58 All Stars including Ashburn, Spahn, Mays, Banks, Williams, Mantle, Ford etc.

I will scan a few pages. If anyone wants to see more. LMK
