Posted By: Chris Counts
I followed the game last night and kid pitched great. What a tragedy. Here's the story ...

By Mike DiGiovanna and Ruben Vives
8:33 AM PDT, April 9, 2009
Angels' pitcher Nick Adenhart was among the three killed in a crash in Fullerton when a driver ran a red light, an associate of the rookie player said this morning. The crash occurred only hours after the 22-year-old appeared in Wednesday night's Angels game.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of Orangethorpe Avenue and Lemon Street in Fullerton, said Lt. Craig Brower of the Fullerton Police Department.

Several witnesses told police the driver of a red minivan ran a red light at the intersection, hitting a silver Mitsubishi carrying four passengers. Two people in the Mitsubishi were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, authorities said. Two others also in the Mitsubishi were taken to a nearby hospital, where one was later pronounced dead, Brower said.

The driver of the minivan fled on foot, but police found him about a mile away and took him into custody on suspicion of hit-and-run, Brower said. Further charges are pending as the investigation continues, he said.

A passenger in the minivan was taken to Western Medical Center, authorities said. The condition of that person was unknown. A third vehicle also was struck, but there were no reports that anyone inside was hurt. Authorities said the intersection will be closed at least until noon as the investigation continues.

Posted By: JohnnyH
A very sad day for baseball and heartbreaking for his family, friends, and fans. The Timberwolf Malik Sealy was killed the same way right up the street from me. Everytime I go under or over the bridge I think about him and what a tradegy it was. The drunk driver that hit him was finally released from prison and got another DUI within a couple months.

I don't believe people will ever learn a lesson.

Maybe the punishment needs to be so severe that others will really think twice before they make the same mistake.

Posted By: Dan Koteles
this could happen to anyone anywhere, including a National .Say you have 3 beers and drive off , you may not be drunk but at an 0.8, it would be enough to put you in this same situation if you killed someone and you may have not thought that you were impaired enough to have another driver drive....well bad luck could be on your side that day, be careful.

This guy 3 three times the limit, uh where was he being served?...there is an extra responsibility if he were at a bar to try and level off how many drinks one has and who is driving them . There must be a point someday to properly conduct this or it will never end. Perhaps a breathalizer before each person leaves a bar?

This has to stop at one point. There are other people besides a baseball player that was equally important to the respected family and this shouldnt had happened.

Many rational people make the conscious choice to avoid such situations. It cannot happen to "anyone anywhere."
