Posted By: george gogol
I too am reading this book and really appreciated the different perspective on Cobb. My local library is hosting the traveling Negro League exhibit and Tom Stanton was the opening speaker. He spoke on "Hank Aaron and the Homerun that Changed America." A book he wrote in 2004. He is a good speaker and a genuine man. I enjoyed his talk a lot and really like his books. My favorite is about a trip he made to Cooperstown with his father and brother. Thanks for the post and I am thoroughly enjoying "Ty and the Babe."
Posted By: Michael Wheat
I am just finishing "Eight Men Out" by Eliot Asinof. I was surprised at all the additional detail the book covered that I had not heard prior either in the movie or other articles. It was a real interesting read as it gave a lot of insight into what the players were thinking. I always wondered how Shoeless Joe could have gotten involved.

I also bought The Gas House Gang by John Heidenry....but haven't started reading it yet.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
I posted on this forum last October regarding this book. I contacted Tom Stanton to thank him for an excellent story on
this great rivalry. We talked for quite a while.....Tom is a fabulous guy to talk with and I highly recommend his book.

Here's the excerpt from my prior post on this forum.

"This very recent book on this great rivalry is a fascinating read. Tom Stanton has written a fair and balanced story on
Cobb. Tom is tough on Cobb in the early chapters and reveals a likeable Cobb in the latter chapters.

Furthermore, in the Appendix, Stanton documents the game by game performance of Cobb and Ruth for the 200+ games
that they faced each other in."

TED Z
