Posted By: ed jeanAm attempting to have a photocopy of every Yankee that played for them. I am down to 38 to fulfill my objective. Some I have are fair but I would like clearer copies. Any help would be appreciated. Whether they played for the Yankees or not,I just need to see their photo. Even if only their minor league picture is available. Understand you specialize in 1903 to 1927 Yankees. Can you help? Would appreciate any response from you. Posted By: MarkDavid, Thanks for posting that scan. Two Daily News Highlander team images exist from that same session - the head shot of "Adkins" that I posted came from the other one. It's intereseting that Istorico identified that guy as Adkins. I was not aware of this book. Note that these 2 Daily News photos don't include ID's, so the opinions are of the author (BTW all the other ID's are certainly correct). A few years ago I and a friend were trying to figure out who it was, and after eliminating all other possibilities, we thought it might be Adkins. My friend contacted the curator at HoF, we got some Adkins images - and at the end we all (including the curator) concluded that this guy is not Adkins. <img src="http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss259/bmarlowe1/55a3310d.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> <img src="http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss259/bmarlowe1/98bf1fdb.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> <img src="http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss259/bmarlowe1/7ad77b00.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> I still don't think it's Adkins - am I sure - no. -though your image looks more like Rhett's image than one I originally posted.

Posted By: bmarlowe1Thanks for your help. Of the copies I have, the closest to your missing player is Fred Holmes. However, to me, he looks Walter Clarkson even though Clarkson is not officially with the Yankees until 1904.

Posted By: PCThe guy in the team photo, and in your avator, is the same guy. Look at the ears. And if Adkins is correctly identified in the other photos and on the chip, then I say it's Adkins.

Seemed like a regular Joe and might be forthcoming as to his reasons for designating the individual third from left in the back row as Doc Adkins if you contacted him. I appreciate the technical skill you have demonstrated in other posts in ID'ing players in old photos and I defer to your expertise. Like I said above, I'm just guessing. DMcD

The Adkins ears and the unknown Higlander ears don't match in the frontal views. For example, Adkins ear, below left angles sharply (like this /)relative to his head. The unknown guy's ear, below right, is much more straight up and down. <img src="http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss259/bmarlowe1/436c9b3b.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> <img src="http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss259/bmarlowe1/9096a181.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> The only caveat is that in some of these early headshot composites (the source of the Adkins photo), the layout artist would trim the outline of the ears. Posted By: PCHi Mark. I'm impressed you remember me from the Fenway photo discussion. (My suggestion as to what the photo was went by without comment, although I stand by the conclusion.) I agree the ears look different, but I think that's because his head is looking in different directions. On that same photo (where the left ear looks cut), the right ear looks a lot like the left ear of the guy in your avatar. Also, in the Baltimore photo the left ears look very similar. Hard to say 100%, but I'm still going with Adkins. They all look alike to me.
