Last fall I visited Newport and was surprised to find what some consider one of the oldest (if not the oldest) ballpark in America. Originally called Basin Field, apparently it was renamed after WW1 for the late Newport ballplayer named Bernardo Cardines. <br><br>It is an extremely cool place, renovated a few years ago, and home to NE Collegiate League games, amongst several others. Looks like there is a debate if this pre 1900 or not. Anyone with some insight?<br><br>What is remarkable is that a few blocks away, one can find the Newport CC (pre 1900), which was home to the 1st US Open and one of the oldest, most exclusive golf clubs in the U.S., and also a few blocks away is the Intl Tennis Hall of Fame, with it's structure/grounds dating to 1880.
