Lotsa celebs frequent both.

Posted By: Brian T.
It is interesting to me that Duke is listed as a swimmer. Though, he was quite the accomplished swimmer and is in the swimming HOF, I think he is far better known for his surfing.

Posted By: Anthony N.
Except that back then surfing was pretty unknown (Duke brought it to the mainland and to Australia around this time) so had he been just a surfer he never would've been known outside Castles.

I suspect all those Olympic medals are what got him the title of Sport King.

edited to remove anonymity on a controversial thread.

What elevated them to the status of sport kings.

Any why weren't there a few more ball players. Surely that would have made the set more marketable.
Posted By: David McDonald
Duke Kahanamoku was Sheriff of Honolulu from 1932 to 1961. It is said that he never made a single arrest. Also acted in numerous movies. Competed against his brother Sam in '24 Olympics (100 meter freestyle, Weismuller gold, Duke silver, Sam bronze).

Eddie Shore did a McSorley on Ace Bailey causing him to fracture his skull and ending his career.

Gene Tunney's son John served one term as a US Senator from California.

First SK to die? Probably Rockne in 1931 (before set was issued). Last to die? Probably Doolittle in 1993.

Board's kinda quiet. Is there a game on TV or something?
