Posted By: Jim Thierfelder
A woman I work with had an uncle, Sam Gray, who played for the Browns and Athletics in the 20's. A quick internet search netted a 1925 exhibit and a 1927 W560 strip card. Can anyone tell me if he appeared on any other cards? Have any other information on this player?

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=graysa01

I thought I might get one for her as a late Christmas present. She collected baseball cards as a little girl in the 50's and 60's.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Posted By: Jim Thierfelder
Jodi,
I live in Racine, WI about an hour from Chicago. My co-worker who is the neice of Sam Gray currently lives in St. Louis but I am not sure where she is from originally. She does have a brother who she describes as a bit of a free spirit, coulda been him or some other relative.

Matt,
Thanks for the list. I will have to add that website to my favorites. It would be great to see some scans of some of the other cards if anyone has one or can direct me to a site where I can find them.

Thanks for the input so far. It looks to me like he would have played on the A's with Ty Cobb in 1927. Pretty cool.

Posted By: Jim Thierfelder
I managed to locate a couple of his cards and have a bid on ebay for one right now. I was not able to locate even a scan of any of the 4 on 1 or the Diaz Cig. card which I am guessing would be very tough. If anyone has a scan of these it would be appreciated. athierfelder@wi.rr.com

On a similar note, I was able to find quite a bit on the internet about Sam Gray. Including the fact that he gave up 9 homers (one less than Walter Johnson) to Babe Ruth. I was hoping to find out if he ever struck out the Babe but haven't been able to find that yet. Any tips on where to look for that kind of information would be appreciated.
