Posted By: Frank Wakefield
I agree with real. Have you held the card? The back looks ever so slightly odd, if you hold it look at the edges to see if there is a sandwich effect. Super remote possibility that it is a real front sandwiched onto an odd back. I'd look for that... yet I'm satisfied that it is real. Nice card!

Posted By: Marty Ogelvie
Beautiful card.. and the best part is, I thought it was real before checking the other responses and the others said it was real also.. which means I'm getting better at this or just lucky. I nearly crapped my pants when I saw the back!

marty

Posted By: PC
Could be rebacked, but the size of the bottom and right borders leads me to believe it is ok. The chances of finding an oversized Cobb/bat front and an oversized Lenox back, and then marrying the two with enough room left over to show have two wide borders (after cutting and sanding the overlap), is unlikely.

On the other hand, the shading/toning/roughness around the borders (visible on the back) makes me a little nervous. If it's rebacked or otherwise faked, it's a real good one.

Would love to hear the verdict from SGC. A great find if it's real.

Posted By: Brian Weisner

Hi George,

Yes, the Cobb bat off does exist with a Lenox back. In fact I have seen at least 3-4 others that I can remember. It's difficult to tell from the picture wether the card has Brown or Black ink on the back, but overall it doesn't look rebacked in the pictures.

Be well Brian

Posted By: barrysloate
The way the light is shining on it it looks brown, but it might look different in person. And it does not appear to be rebacked, it seems just right to me.

Posted By: jason
it looks real and does not toy can' ll by a pic or a scan what i think you should do is put it under a black light and if it glows it is new card stock. the other thing is you can get a magnifying glass and look at the pic thats the best way i can tell

Posted By: George
Be easier to see in person lined up next to other Lenox, but if I had to guess, my guess is brown...and if so, I am impressed. Hope the owner posts the card after it gets back from sgc

Posted By: robert a
It's real and it looks like brown lenox which is great, but I think it's possible that the cobb has been rebacked.

It's discolored and darkened all the way around the edges. The "stain" on the front looks like a glue soak to me that is evident on the back as well.

The corners look like they've been evened out to make up for any overlap or mismatch. Doesn't appear to be your average corner wear.

Looks like a professional job though.

With most rebacks, the people waste their time putting together an impossible combo but if this is a reback this person was finally smart about putting together a possible combo.

Of course I might be wrong and hope so for the guy who owns it sake. It's an important T206 find!

Rob

Posted By: Pennsylvania Ted
It sure looks like a Brown LENOX....Richie which color is it ?
That may be a very important factor.

If it's Black, as BRIAN W said....this Cobb has been confirmed with this back.

If it's Brown, then it may be problematic. As, the few Brown LENOX backs that I've seen have been on T206's in the 460-only
Series.

But, this Cobb is in the 350/460 Series.

Perhaps, Brian W or Dan McKee can chime and confirm or contradict this observation on Brown LENOX T206's ? ?

TED Z

Posted By: Brian Weisner

Hi Ted,
I can't tell from the picture if the print is Black or Brown, but I have seen both on 350 and 460 series cards. I'll try to post a few scans tomorrow if I have a chance, but I doubt anyone who hasn't seen them side to side in person can tell the difference.

Be well Brian

PS A high resolution scan would be better than the pictures...

Posted By: David Smith
Unless I win the lottery, I can not afford this card so you probably don't ahve to worry about me.

My question, though, is this; what is the story or history behind this card? Found in an attic, old book or a wall? Did/down an old time collector own this or was this just a find that the owners didn't really know much about?

Just curious. You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I will understand. However when something fairly rare comes along it is nice to hear the story behind it.

David
