Posted By: Rob D.
I doubt that many voters took it into account, and count me among those who think batting average is overrated, but Howard's BAs of .168 in April and .213 in August are pretty big matza balls.
Posted By: Jason
Batting Average? Home Runs? RBIs?

You know there are better ways to evaluate the worth of a player to his team.

Hell Howard isn't even the MVP on his team. That belongs to Chase Utley.

I figured the media would go with Pedroia eventhough Mauer had the better season. C'est la vie.

Posted By: quan
pujols over howard, pedroia...lincecum over webb. the bbwaa finally moved into the 21st century, threw out their typewriters and bought computers. then they connected to the interweb and typed in "baseball" on google...

Posted By: Kenneth A. Cohen
Howard's power numbers surely must be helped by the fact that he plays in a little league ballpark.

Posted By: samuel
I agree with the winners. respect to ryan howard though. every september it seems like he's hitting a home run literally every night. and look at his RBI over the last 3 years.

Posted By: Jay
The better question is, if the MVP award is truely given to the player most valuable to his team, how did Manny not win the MVP? Without him the Dodgers were an also ran, with him a playoff team. His numbers over the last two months of the season were some of the greatest ever.

Posted By: Glen V
Didn't Pujols say: "Someone who doesnt take his team to the playoffs doesnt deserve to win the MVP"? What's he saying now???

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
I actually thought Santana deserved the Cy Young ahead of Linceum: lowest league ERA and had the most wins ever blown by a Mets bullpen -- which says a lot considering their history. And he pitched a complete game shutout on 3 days rest on the second to last day of the season in the heat of a playoff chase.

Posted By: John K
Pedroia is a very unique player. He is an amazing bad ball hitter, esp. high and inside. How he gets the bat to square up on the ball up there "baffles science" as WC Fields used to say. His motor revs as high as anyone in baseball (Youk is much in the same mold).
Manny, on the other hand. Interesting story on ESPN.com a few days ago by Pedro Gomez on Manny. Seems that when Manny was on his way to get an MRI on his "ailing" knee, he forgot which knee was sore. The club who signs him should consider a series of one year deals.

The Giants games are probably too late (and too boring) for you to keep up with.

What Lincecum did this year with that lousy club was unbelievable.

I hear ya with the Mets blowing those games for Santana, but what Lincecum did this year was special. I didn't feel like Santana's year was Cy Young worthy.

Rob

That's just to many games to miss to have a shot at winning it.

ps- edited to add, I to think Lincecum was the correct choice for the Cy Young in the NL.
Coming from a D-Back fan that really hurts to say to.
