Posted By: sagard
For those of us who find this topic interesting, but can't stay on top of every argument a couple of questions.

1) Can you layout the reasons the Green Cobb was not considered possible with the EPDG? Or was it simply it had not been seen before?

2) Is the concern that we might be seeing a rebacked card with a trim to hide the evidence?

3) Doesn't SGC usually post on the flip why a card won't grade?

Posted By: Brian E.
SAGARD:

I will do my best to answer your questions but there are those way more knowledgeable on T206 backs and possible combinations than myself.

1) To my knowledge the Cobb Green portrait with EPDG back has not been seen before and I did not think it is possible because the Green Cobb only appears as a 150 series, an earlier series. EPDG came out later thus not possible for the Green Cobb. Same goes for the Cobb Bat On. EPDG is seen in the Cobb Red and Cobb Bat Off (I own one and used to own the other).

2) T206 Cobbs have been rebacked before and been erroneously graded by PSA and/or SGC. If the Green Cobb is not believed to be possible and PSA/SGC has screwed up before, I am concerned it might be rebacked and missed by a grader.

3) I don't think SGC annotates why a card is given an Authentic label, at least they didn't used to.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
BRIAN E

Having looked at the scan of this Cobb, two things struck me......it is perfectly centered and its borders look
somewhat wider than most T206's. However........

(1)....Green Cobb cards are mostly off-center.

(2)....This card is graded AUTH. (perhaps, due to trimming ?)....but, you couldn't tell that by its wider borders.

Now, someone asked...."Or was it simply it had not been seen before?"......
Yes, serious and knowledgeable long time T206 set collectors have not seen this front/back combo. However,
that in itself is not proof that this combo does not exist. Another 150/350 series card, Carl Lundgren (Cubs),
is seldom seen with an EPDG back. In 26 years, when I first acquired this Lundgren (EPDG) card, I have only
seen one other Lundgren (EPDG).

Anyhow, when American Litho. started printing the 150 series cards with 350 series backs, the 1st two Assor-
ted backs were the EPDG and the OLD MILL brands. The Green Cobb was printed with very few 350 backs.
The only confirmed 350 backs are Piedmont 350, Sweet Caporal 350 (Fac. 30), and OLD MILL.

So, it remains to be seen if this Cobb was printed with an EPDG back ?

TED Z
