Posted By: Rich Klein
And I have no empirical evidence of this; but have prices been considerably softer in major auctions in the past month or so. When keeping track of some items, I just got an impression that things were down slightly to significantly. Am curious as to your opinions.

Regards
Rich

Posted By: leon
I think we have had a few discussions on the board about this recently. Overall the prices on cards I track, the ones in the $100-$1000 range, are down substantially. I feel on some it's 15% and on some it can be 50% or more....I do quite a bit of buying, selling and collecting and this is my thought....The really premier cards have continued to escalate....

on a side note.....Jeff P- Rich and I are doing lunch tomorrow at 11am at Tin Star on the Tollway/Park and you are invited if you can make it....You too Ted H., if you get the message...

Posted By: Bryan Long
I say yes - they have dropped a ton if you ask me. It may just be my auctions, but I have stopped selling things for a little while, especially on the bay because of the prices things have gone for. But, then again, I may just be having bad luck lately, but I have taken a bath on several items.

.

Posted By: Fred C
Soft prices!!! Doesn't it mean it's time to BUY, BUY, BUY? You can either take advantage of this lull and pick up material at a lower price than a year ago or you can sit on the sideline and see what happens. Maybe the prices drop more, maybe they strengthen again. Personally, there's been such a strong run up in prices that maybe this is time for a correction.

I still think that nice material will not drop too much. If anyone sees an E90-1 Mitchell for auciton I bet it will still demand strong attention.

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Rarish cards are still very strong; high grade cards that are easily found have dropped significantly. I guess baseball cards as an investment behave like other investments.

Posted By: Jason L
Anything that the general buying public is in the market for is soft. Items that the truly wealthy are interested in will always be firmer. True across every consumer good I have ever heard of, and certainly true of cards as we head into this downturn
Posted By: Sean
I would also say its down, for the more common stuff 15-25%. You can easily find T206 PSA/SGC 6's selling for $150, and 7's can be found for $300-$400 now.

Sean

Always in the past, you can sell, it's just a matter of the haircut you want to take. Now, when I go to the auction, it's just empty. Wholesalers who used to buy 30 cars are looking to buy 2.

Just wish I wasn't strong on inventory right now myself.

S
