Posted By: <b>Shawn</b><p>Below is an account book of A. F. Burtt, who worked for the Draper and Maynard Company in the 1890s. Burtt keeps track of the production of gloves, mitts, outseems the cost and time starting with the year 1890. He also tracks his income from J. F. Draper. What is really cool about this is that A.F. Burtt invented a Catchers Mitt that was patented in 1895. Below, there is a photo of a page in the book that shows Burtt paying $20.00 for the patent on Nov. 9 1895! He also invented a Boxing Glove and Punching Bag... Whats so interesting is you have some of the original works of D&M before they started to really take on the larger companies. I was beginning to think this one was "dead in the water", I think allot of people are focused on the politics thread instead of baseball.<br><br>Anyway, its amazing how this guy kept up with every little expense... Candy, gum, soda, ink, neck-ties, hair-cut, ball game, etc.<br><br>I keep seeing a record for "asst. a. o. v. w." for $1.00, wonder what that means?

Posted By: <b>D. Bergin</b><p>I don't see any mention of size in the patent. I think they are of a different style. Mine are larger sized 12 oz. (Big for that time period, probably for training and sparring purposes). They also are double ribbed down by the cuff area.<br><br>I think the one in the patent shown are for an actual fight use glove, somewhere between a 4-6 oz. variety.<br><br>
