Posted By: Wade
I rarely post on this site but I have been an avid reader since the "old board." Because I only collect one player I rarely have anything to add to the conversation but I have followed along these last several years intently and with great enjoyment. I knew very little about vintage cards prior when I first found this site and the wealth of knowledge on this board is unbelievable.

Over the years I have bought a few items and I created a website recently to tell his story as well as show some of those items. I thought that if anybody might appreciate it, it would be the readers on this site. I had no idea how to start a website so I just went to freewebs and followed my nose. I hope you get some enjoyment out of it and I welcome any comments.

p.s This is a very rudimentary website and I'm sure there are grammatical errors so please just overlook them.

**Leon, I'm not trying to sell anything so I hope it is ok I posted this.

Thanks,
Wade

http://www.freewebs.com/harrywolter/index.htm

Posted By: Wade
Thanks everyone. I worked hard on the site and I can't tell you how much research I did on him over the years. It is funny how you can get wrapped up in a player from so long ago. Leon, I love that Drum; if you ever get rid of it let me know.

Wade

Posted By: Chris Counts
Wade,

I really enjoyed visiting your site. What a wonderful tribute! I've long been interested in Harry Wolter because I live on the Monterey Peninsula, not far from where he was born. I'm particularly curious about his early life here, although I've never done much research. Let me know if you're interested in any local contacts for historical research ...

Posted By: Robert Klevens
It seems like you put a lot of work into it. I like the graphics and layout, but why don't you spend a few bucks and register www.harrywolter.com? It would be easier to remember and look better than using a free site with ads, I think that detracts.

Posted By: Rob D.
To follow up on what Robert said, I created my Web site using FreeWebs, then decided I wanted a certain url, which was available. It's really easy to buy an address and then have it redirect to your existing FreeWebs site, which is what I did. You can do it all through FreeWebs, though you don't have to. It all depends on how comfortable you are with this sort of thing. You'll pay a bit more doing it through FreeWebs, but it walks you through the process step-by-step, so the extra money you pay might be worth it.

Posted By: Wade
Thanks guys. I thought about upgrading in order to get a better domain name and no ads but after today I'm guessing I'll probably be the only visitor to it. I may upgrade in the future if I can get some more things to add to it. I appreciate the comments and also thanks to those that signed the guestbook...now I won't have to have my brother sign it.

Posted By: Jason L
Wade,
thanks very much for sharing this!

This is exactly the kind of research effort that adds an invaluable amount to the body of general baseball knowledge that the public can access.

I share your understanding of how researching one or two players in depth can be a far more rewarding experience than simply reading up on the most popular players or teams of an era.

Well done website, and I hope you continue to update it as you find more.

Thanks again,
Jason L

Posted By: DMcD
Wade-
What a great tribute to an old ballplayer! As far as I'm concerned the hours you put in to creating this website were all worth it for this baseball fan. I didn't know much about Harry Wolter; it was very interesting to read about him and to see his old cards, especially those neat Zeenuts. The music, too, was spot-on. Who amongst us doesn't get all gooey listening to Ashokan Farewell? Well done!

My father was at Stanford before the war; I scanned this photo from his 1940 yearbook. You are welcome to use it if you wish.

I am one of the resident Net54 Grammar Gestapo Guys. Nothing glaring popped out so no need worry. One quibble though . . you should omit the quotes around Meiggs in your title. One would think that was his nickname rather than his middle name. And a question . . who does Take Me Out to the Ballgame on your site? Probably should know but can't come up with the singer's name.

David McDonald

Posted By: Shawn Chambers
Wade,

That is a nice site...don't short change your effort!

It is really great to see sites about a more "common" ballplayer and I wish there were more of 'em.

If I have to nitpick, the only thing that really jumped out at me was "Memorabilia" was mis-spelled in your link.

I really love the sharp Yankee photos and the Zeenuts.

Shawn

Posted By: Wade
David- That is a great photo and I thank you for it; I will use it for sure. I have removed the quotation marks around his middle name as I don't believe this was his nickname.

Shawn- Thanks for catching the typo, it has been corrected.

Posted By: Wade
David-- I believe the artist that sings this version of "Take me out to the Ballgame" is named Raffi, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
Wade
Posted By: Wade
What made you select Harry Wolter to profile?

Dave- If you check out the "my story" page on the site it kind of explains why, but the gist of it is that I was intrigued that there was a ballplayer with my last name.

Are there any cards you are missing that you know exist?

It is interesting that Chase who is not thought of well seemed to help him a bit.

He certainly was very active and seemed well known amoung his peers.

James G

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.

Posted By: Wade
James- There are few cards I don't have:
1910 T5 Pinkerton
1911 E224 Texas Tommy
1911 T202 Chase dives into third
1911 T202 Chase gets ball too late
1911 T202 Scrambling back to first
1910 All Star Baseball
1907 W600 Cardinals
Several different back variations on the T205

There may be more but these are the ones I know of. The T202's aren't that hard but the others are almost impossible. I do have scans of all of these except the T5. If anyone wants to donate any of these feel free
