SMR Price Bumps... everything before 1940

Posted By: <b>Eric</b><p>Did anyone see the SMR that was just mailed out?<br /><br />They bumped the prices on EVERYTHING prior to 1940. <br />Basically every single card graded 1-3 was increased.<br /><br />While this may have been long overdue, it appears that<br />many items are still under priced compared to their<br />selling prices either here on Net54 or on ebay.<br /><br />Thoughts?

Posted By: <b>Red</b><p>They didn't raise the prices. The 1 to 3 prices are all new additions to the SMR and are just percentages drops calculated from the PSA 4 price. In many cases the prices calculated for PSA 1 are laughable. $200 T206 Cobb, Cracker Jacks at $420 for Cobb, $730 for Jackson. How about some M101 with Jackson at $560, Thorpe at $420, and Ruth rookie for $2100. Throw in a set of 1938 Goudey at $1291, 1939 Playball at $833, and 1933 Goudey at $5803. Wow I still got loads of money left over. I'll take a 1915 Cracker Jack at $4403, US Caramel at $2421, Sport Kings at $1757, and might as well grab that T206 set-3 at $13639.

Posted By: <b>Anonymous</b><p>Ah... I realize now that these are all new additions.<br /><br />Its still amazing how they are basically all below the current market prices.<br /><br />You would think instead of calculating them as a % of the PSA 4 grade, they'd actually do some market research.

Posted By: <b>scott fandango</b><p>smr is nice to thumb through on the toilet, but if you want accurate pricing, there is only 1 place....VCP....these are not estimates, or opinions, they are completed sales that sometimes post the day of the sale!<br /><br /> well worth the monthly fee if you are a collector....<br /><br /> why PSA hasnt tapped into the same data that VCP has is beyond me...

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>For the record Bobby at VCP is a friend and advertiser....however....<br /><br />You might want to be careful about blindly looking at completed sales as absolute prices received. Have you ever seen cards in auctions mysteriously get sold again in the same auction the next go round? I think some sales aren't sales.....but look like them to set a market price. I have no idea about SMR as all I have ever heard is how bad it is, so I never really gave it a thought. <br /><br />I do use VCP and think it's a good service...but don't take "everything" at face value.....regards

Posted By: <b>scott fandango</b><p>good point, however when the seller and buyer are disclosed it is easier to see if a sale is legit....its not just a "number"<br /><br />the great thing about VCP is that you can track a specific card sometimes...person A buys it, then 3 months later sells it, and then that buyer sells it again...also great is how they include scans of the cards...big help especially for SGC 10's and PSA 1's as we know there can be huge differences is that grade

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>Don't always be sure a good seller and good buyer are mutually exclusive. I think a lot of games are played, even on ebay. I don't play them and don't like them....but they are out there. That being said I do think the large majority (95%+) of VCP prices are accurate and in good faith....As I said I do use it and base some of my buying on it's data.....My whole reason for my post was so that folks don't think because it is there then it has to be the gospel truth.....regards
