Posted By: Tony Galovich
I was just surfing on Ebay looking for cards.
I found a Major dealer with a ton of scarce oddball items &
when I went to check the listing to see what grade the card was in
he stated
Grade -- Nice

Nice ??

People can be Nice

Cards aren't Nice

The are VG, Or NM etc.
NOT nice

I have really noticed this trend on Ebay where sellers
Refuse to list the grade of the item they are selling

This irks me to no end

Without a grade how can I determine if the asking price is Fair?

What is wrong with these sellers?
Are they Lazy?
Are they just deceptive?

Am I the only person who get's upset seeing a item with NO grade
Or worse I love the seller
who says
View the Scan &
YOU decide what it is

Like I can make a decision based on a pathetic scan & no back scan

I usually pass & go elsewhere
I can't tolerate amateur sellers
even the one's who THINK they are professionals

I wonder how much business they Lose with this practice
Or is it How much they Make from buyers who Don't Ask Questions.

Posted By: Red
Would you prefer to buy a card relying on the seller's opinion of the grade, or would you prefer to buy a card based on what you can plainly see for yourself in the picture? If a seller calls a card VG and you look at the picture and it's not what you'd call VG, what use was the seller's opinion of the grade to you? Maybe it would even grade VG if you shipped it off for grading, but you don't have to buy it if you don't like it. If you're trying to score Mint cards from a seller's nice selection it's a tough business.

Posted By: Bob
Hi Tony. I am a user of "Nice" although I use the description "SGC 40 Nice" with full, large color scans of front and back. Here's another one in which I describe it as "Nice No Creases" with large scans. Rather than say "VGEX" and know everyone has their own idea of what a VGEX card is, I let the large scans do the talking but point out any defects. Maybe it is because I was born in Minnesota (Ask Lee, Jay and the other Minnesotans what "Minnesota nice" means)
tbob
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=330279632617

Posted By: Anthony S.
I'll take a description of "nice" accompanied by large front and back scans over a "NearMint" description accompanied by small scans any day of the week.

Posted By: Fred C
The whole subject of asssigning a "grade" to the card's condition has always been debateable. You would think that a dealer would provide a "grade" to a card that they are sellig. What a lot of people have found is that even if the dealer provides a "grade" to a card the seller and buyer may be far apart in the ascertation of a grade. The whole subjective nature of grading really is something that will forever be debated. One persons VG/EX is another persons EX/MT. Therefore the sellers price for what he thinks is EX/MT isn't always going to be consistent with what a buyer wants to pay for a VG/EX card.
Posted By: S Gross
........ gonna' go with TBob here; although I've only got 1/4 of his numberical ebay sales, I use the terms: Nice, beautiful, classic, etc. etc. I'm not trying to con/hype anyone, just show a big scan of a mainsteam issue and let the bidder see what he's bidding on (<----- dangling participle). In fact, quite the opposite: "here's the card, you know what it is, no BS, go for it !!"

........... in fact, I think "nice" is a nice grade
