Posted By: fkw
Why would you think it is a proof? Does the card have a blank back? Or does it have printers cross hash marks on the edges?

I have a blank back card that some might call a E90-1 proof, but some of the players in E90-1 have the same fronts as E92, E101, E102 etc. so its impossible to pinpoint the exact set.

SGC could have chose to slab this as a E90-1 or E101 Proof too. I wish they would have said it was a E90-1 since the McLean in that set is a tough one

Posted By: scott fandango
i think SGC got it right, that is not an E90-1 you can see by the borders... the e90-1 have a bigger lower border and this would be a trimmed e90-1 if it were that....

Posted By: Jim VB
Jason,

You've asked the question, a couple of times, in a couple of different ways. I bet you'd get some response if you posted a scan.

Edited to add - If you email me a scan, I will attempt to post it for you.

Posted By: Tony Andrea
Hi Jason,
Maybe this will help. I just picked this up as an upgrade for my set. It to has the marks you are speaking of. E90-1's are commonly found with these marks and many of the cards in my set have them. Some marks show up better than others while most are light in contrast. They are not proofs simply printers marks. They do not add any value to the card. Honestly, I don't think proof's exist from this set.

Regards,Tony A.

Posted By: Scott Fandango
very nice card!

it seems most of these cards with crosshairs are also diamond cuts...

i wonder if it was their first run, and they corrected things (diamond cutting and printer marks) for the next series....

Posted By: Bob
I always thought that the E90-1 set (like the E94 set) had never had a proof card surface and that, like the McLean shown above, they were blank backed E92s.

With the presence of period printer’s guidelines, the attractive portrait of this upper-echelon Hall of Famer offers the advanced collector a seldom-encountered opportunity."

Posted By: peter ullman
I agree that numerous e90-1 cards can be found with printers hatch marks...there should not be a premium attached to this...nor should it be suggested these are proof cards.

Posted By: Pennsylvania Ted
The two cards shown here (Thomas and Young) are NOT "proof" cards.

They are simply cards that were positioned on the top or the bottom rows of their sheets, where these printer's sheet
cutting markings are situated. These markings can be found on all types of BB cards (pre-War and post-War).
